Toilet seats!

What type of toilet seat hardware is easiest to keep clean and also doesn't break? I just looked around at the store and they have the normal old-school lids with attachments that collect grunge. I definitely don't want that. I'm a bit worried I'll get something that breaks or is just as gross.

Choices are metal hinges that look a bit easier to clean, a type that is billed as being easy to remove for easier cleaning, and one that has a single long plastic cover across the back covering up the point where the seat is attached to the toilet.

Who has any info to help me decide? Is there another type of toilet seat with hardware that's even easier to keep clean.

Toilet Seat at Work Has Month/Year Chart on Underside -- What Is It?

The toilet seat at my place of work has a chart like this embossed on the underside. Clearly months and years, with a period of them checked off with little bumps. What could it possibly mean? The chart is about 5cm x 5cm in size.

The Greatest Ethical Consideration Of Our Time

Why must the toilet seat be left down?
[more inside - if you'll pardon the phrase] Okay... I can understand why anyone would like the idea of the lid being put down, but why is there always an argument about the damned seat?

The only answer I've ever got is that the toilet ceramic is cold if you sit on it. Excuse me? Men get nagged because you might not be observant enough to notice the toilet is part missing?

Am I missing something, or is this a random bit of gender bias?
