Baby on a bus situation

So it looks like I might need to start taking the baby on the bus to her daycare, which is downtown. I say baby… she's pretty much a toddler now, being just under one and a half, and pretty squirmy with it to. My preferred travel option with her when on foot is to put her in a backpack, which she loves and which chills her right out, but we also have a stroller. So… what is the best way to carry her on the bus? I've considered just standing with her in the backpack the whole way, but it seems like there might be a safety concern. There's taking the backpack off and keeping her in it, which seems like it might have similar concerns. Taking her right out of the backpack and putting her in my lap seems like it might be the most safety conscious option, but that assumes a seat and that she will stay put - that later condition being highly unlikely. And then it may be the same deal with the stroller. Thoughts?

Did a toddler break my speakers?

I have a pair of vintage Bose 501 speakers that have worked great for the past five years. They are connected to a vintage Yamaha CR-820 receiver. A while ago, my favorite toddler pushed all the buttons on the receiver and the speakers stopped working. She came over again, pushed a bunch of buttons and it started working again. Next time: bunch of pushes, stopped. Now no button pushing seems to matter... is it broken? [more inside]

Introducing The Beatles et. al. to a 2.5 year old

I want to introduce my 2.5 year old daughter to songs & tunes that will stay with her for the rest of her life. When she was born, I used to sing to her Ringo’s "Good Night" as her first lullaby, and recently when she found it on ‘her Youtube’, she was astonished & happy to rediscover it. I want to feed her with many more great Beatles tunes to grow up with, as well as any and all other great & necessary melodies. [more inside]

Modern toddler stories? My google foo is top-notch but I am frustrated with what's out there.

I am looking for simple, modern stories to tell my toddler. I am disappointed with what I am finding online and at book stores, mostly because it is so hopelessly outdated and/or un-relatable. I don't want stories about farm animals, or centuries-old fables written in ye olden english, or nonsensical babble that rhymes but makes little sense otherwise, or "stories" that are not stories at all but rather pictures that you point at to name colors, numbers, etc (we've already mastered those). Any recommendations on stories that a toddler can relate to, and perhaps learn a lesson or two?

Toddler behavior - throwing things but not out of anger - what to do?

My 16 month old son throws his cup or his food when he no longer wants it. Not emotional, not a tantrum, definitely willful. The boy looks us straight in the eye and throws. He doesn't seem to respond to a harsh "No!" or the more empathetic, gentle "we set our cup down nicely" approach. I am assuming this is pretty standard kid behavior, but is there anyway to curtail this behavior in a kind, constructive and effective manner? He is pretty happy, easy going little guy, right now.

Two kids, one bedroom: what should we know?

Right now, our 3-and-a-half-year old has her own room, and our one-year-old sleeps in Mommy & Daddy's bedroom. Next week, we're moving the baby into the toddler's room. What can we do to make the transition as painless as possible? How can we make this necessity into a positive experience for our kids? Are we crazy for even considering this? If your children share a bedroom (or if you shared a bedroom as a child), I'd love to hear your advice, warnings, opinions, and anything else you think I should hear.
