Realistic books about toddlers for toddlers?

Our 21 month old is fascinated by the photos of parents and babies in The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. It got me thinking that although he's got over 50 story and picture books, they nearly all feature animals as protagonists. Can you recommend some books featuring realistic everyday life with toddlers as the main characters? [more inside]

Anthropomorphic animal picture books about death for a toddler?

Grandma died. Grandma was a huge part of my daughter's life. My daughter is 9, but brain damage makes her like a 2-year-old. My daughter prefers to talk about sad/scary things via anthropomorphic animals in picture books. ("Scared like Piglet." "Sad like Franklin.") Any suggestions for a book with animals about death that covers everything simply - sickness, hospital, death, funeral, sadness, saying goodbye, comfort?

Congratulations! Your INFANT evolved into TODDLER!

I've read several baby books that provide a comprehensive overview of the first year of an infant's life: development, basic care, etc. Can you recommend a book that covers the toddler years in a similar way? [more inside]

Children's books that include children of color?

I'm looking for board books that do not just portray white children. Books appropriate for ages 1-4 would be fine, but I'm buying for a 2-year-old so a bit on the simpler side is better. Thank you!

Looking for novels featuring good parenting

I want to improve my parenting skills for my almost-2-year old. I don't have a lot of role models nearby, so I'd like to do some reading. I tend to put off reading non-fiction, even if it is well-written about a topic I am interested in. However, I will read novels even if they aren't very good and I don't really have time to read them. [more inside]
