Best SIM card for data and texting travelling in the USA?

I will be in the USA for exactly three weeks in July. I've been looking for a SIM card option (for my unlocked Nexus 4), and it seems like most people recommend the T-Mobile $2 or $3 per day unlimited texts/calls/data option. I also saw a deal from Spot-Mobile that looks better: it's $39.99 for a month of unlimited texts/calls/data, with the first 1GB of data at 4G speeds and free $10 credit for international calls. I'm a little wary, though, because I basically can't find any reference in forums to travellers using Spot-Mobile, or any reviews of them. Their coverage map looks fine, though. Also, I can't tell what their data speed will be for me, since my phone doesn't have 4G. Will it default to 3G or 2G for that first 1GB? Has anyone had any experience with Spot-Mobile? Would you recommend this plan? [more inside]

Samsung Galaxy S5...a goner?

So I didn't really want to use a question on this, but earlier today I was out taking the camera on my new S5 for a spin. The results are beautiful. The problem is that at some point during the day, I managed to drop my phone about four feet onto the metal footplate of my electric wheelchair. I'm wondering if this may have killed the maniacally fast autofocus I thought I had going for me earlier in the day. [more inside]

How can I finance an unlocked, no-contract Android phone?

Will an unlocked iPhone with a TMobile sim work normally?

If I were to obtain an official, factory-unlocked iPhone 5, and insert the pay-as-you-go TMobile micro-SIM I currently use in another phone, can I assume the iPhone will work exactly as if I'd obtained it on a contract? I'm specifically interested in Facetime and in free iMessaging between iPhones. [more inside]

T-Mobile phone with international roaming

Apologies for the probable stupidity of this question: I want to take my locked T-Mobile phone to Ireland for a couple weeks and use it as a camera, and for internet access where there is wifi. No calls, no texting. Can I do this without incurring outrageous international roaming charges? Or does just, like, turning it on overseas set in motion the roaming charges? Thanks.

T-Mobile: Stay or Go?/iPhone or No?

I have had a reasonably happy relationship with my T-Mobile G2 (aka HTC Desire Z) these past two years, but my contract is up, and I have long coveted the iPhone, mostly based on its picture taking and video chatting capabilities. Should I just get one and take advantage of T-Mobile's new pricing? Or should I jump to a new carrier? An attempt to make this less open-ended is inside. [more inside]

Can I force Skype to use wifi on my unlocked Nexus 4?

I can't figure out whether it's possible to force Skype to use available wifi signals, rather than my data allowance, on my unlocked Nexus 4. I'm using a T-Mobile no-contract sim, and I can see why the carriers would like to discourage this, but since the phone's unlocked (bought directly from Google) I'm thinking it must be possible. Is it?

T-Mobile prepaid in Brooklyn

Now that the Galaxy Nexus is $399 unlocked, I'm thinking about buying one and getting T-Mobile's $30/mo. prepaid plan. I don't make all that many calls so the limited number of minutes is fine by me. I live and work in Brooklyn, and on account of that spend most of my time in the borough. There are some dated questions here that claim that service is spotty in Brooklyn— is that still the case? Move an iPhone 4 from AT&T to Tmobile?

I currently am on my parents plan with an iPhone 4 via AT&T for my phone/data. I would like to keep my phone and number, but move to T-Mobile on to my wife's plan. Is it true that 3G will not work as this article suggests? Can I use any other carrier beside AT&T without gimping my phone? Is there any chance in the future of compatibility with Tmobile? Also: would this nullify my unlimited data with AT&T? Is it possible to get off my parent's plan and on to my own without losing unlimited data? (I was told they no longer offer it..)
