Depressed and Anxious - Unmotivated unless I take a Tranqulizer

This seems counter-intuitive so I thought I'd search out insight as to why this happens. I have been treated for depression with anxiety for over 20 years and for the most part, my daily medicine helps me function like a normal person. I find that I tire very easily and after having explored and corrected regular medical reasons (Low D) I still feel like coming home after work and doing absolutely nothing. It feels therapeutic to crawl into bed even though my heart and stomach feel full of anxious energy. [more inside]

Spanish language version of HALT (hungry, angry, lonely, tired)?

I have an English-language health handout that includes the self-care check-yourself acronym HALT (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired - more background on it here). I want to have the handout translated into Spanish. Is there an "official" Spanish-language version of HALT that therapists use? I don't want to make up something new. [more inside]

Never Get Tired

This is somewhat of a strange post, but I thought that I would post it anyways. The bottom line is that I never get tired anymore. I still sleep at night, but I don't feel any different when I go to bed then when I wake up in the morning. For nine years I used to be on Adderall for ADHD and I have been off of it for almost two years now. [more inside]

Problems getting up in the morning. Very frustrated!

Lately, I have been caught in a very frustrating chain. Sometimes I wonder why I even set my alarm, because I always smack the snooze, often multiple times, and usually wake up at a less than desirable time, feeling bad about it. [more inside]

Experiencing extreme fatigue after driving

If I drive for about an hour, city or highway, I am extremely tired when I get to my destination. This happens during times of day when I am otherwise perfectly alert. I usually have no problem staying awake during the day, but if I have to drive, my body is screaming for a nap afterwards. [more inside]

Advice for sleeping with sudden insomnia?

I haven't been able to sleep well for the past week; this is totally out of the blue, as I usually get around 7 hours of z's. I think it's due to stress. I'm averaging around 3 hours on a good night, which is taking its toll on my physical/emotional/cognitive health. I'm actually dreading getting into bed tonight, and would like some advice from MeFites who are struggling with/have overcome insomnia on how I can best rig my chances for possibly sleeping well. Dealing with mental fatigue throughout the week

Tips for powering through work when you are sick?

I think I have the flu. It's kind of mild, but has all the usual stuff like headache, body aches, lots of mucus, exhaustion, mild fever. I am also teaching a 130-student course and we are in week 11 of 13. I have 35 assignments to mark by tomorrow, an exam to finalise by Monday, and an assignment to create today. Fortunately I don't have any face-to-face time today, so I have stayed at home, but if I don't get this stuff done, not only do I miss university imposed deadlines, but I just pile up extra work for myself next week, that will make it impossible for me to prepare my lectures on time. All I want to do is curl up in bed and sleep, or watch trashy TV. Does anyone have some physical or psychological tricks for making yourself work in these circumstances?

I am exhausted all the time - help?

I'm trying to figure out why I'm exhausted all the time. Of late, I have been generally getting 8-9 hours of sleep (sometimes more), and am very tired through the day, sometimes taking an accidental nap (that I don't have time for), and after dinner I am too tired to do anything and have to push myself and am not very productive. This can't be normal. Even figuring out the general genre of the exhaustion would be helpful, especially whether it results from some sort of clear-cut medical problem or whether it's psychosomatic. I'm about to get bloodwork done, and am trying to figure out what should be tested for. More inside, and I'd love any thoughts or pointers. [more inside]

How do I deal with profound emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion?

Whenever I have a particularly stressful or taxing day, I end up being profoundly exhausted for 2-3 days after. We're talking sleeping for 16 hours each day, walking around in a daze, feeling sick after eating, and just feeling unable to do anything I want or need to do. It's like I'm dealing with trauma, but surely this isn't a normal or even reasonable response to trauma, right? If you've dealt with this in the past or are dealing with it now, could you please share any solutions you've found that have worked for you? This has been going on since 2008 for me.

Picking Yourself Up By Your Boostraps

Greetings All: Well, it's February and the weather is pretty crummy which is appropriate for this time of year. For those of you reading this post, I don't have a lot to add to what is going on in my life right now. To make matters simple, I would say this that I have lived in a very closed off world for most of my life. I have made some pretty bad life choices, and that I have tried to see the positive of the things that have gone my way. Unfortunately, things are not going the way that I would like right now which makes me me feel as thought I am in the same boat as everyone else. [more inside]

Why does sustained exercise sometimes make me very unwell for hours or even days?

Why does sustained exercise sometimes make me very unwell for hours or even days? I lift heavy weights at the gym three times a week with no problems, I get enough sleep, I eat very healthily (but perhaps my intake is low on carbs like bread, pasta or rice). But every now and then, when I do a sustained cardio type exercise for about an hour or a little more (playing a sport, taking occasional breaks for water, etc), I start to feel fatigued before everyone else does, then I feel extremely sick to the point of having to sit down, not wanting to move. In extreme cases, I've been unwell for more than two entire days after. [more inside]

Bunch of symptoms, maybe hypothyroid, what do I do next?

Bunch of symptoms, maybe hypothyroid, what do I do next? For the past several years, I’ve had a bunch of nagging symptoms that together have been very frustrating, and at times debilitating. The onset of the symptoms was about 7 years ago. My GP initially thought hypothyroidism, but the tests came back normal. As the years have gone on, the symptoms have waxed and waned but never gone away, and I keep getting retested for hypothyroidism at my doctors suggestion, but the tests always come back normal. After looking at the actual values from the lab, and a bit of research, I’m wondering if it isn’t in fact hypothyroidism, and what to do next. [more inside]
