Travelling to Bali soon for the first time (2 adults, 2 kids under 10). We're staying in Sanur. What are your top tips please? This could be for places to visit or things to see but could also be around important things to consider regarding health, safety, money exchange, general dos and don'ts etc. I'm sure there are lots of seasoned Bali visitors on the site who've got lots of experience to share, some having learned the hard way. Please pass on your wisdom!

I'm trying to make travel plans, however, the whole situation is changing so rapidly. I have not booked any tickets yet. My rough original intention was to travel throughout Southeast Asia through China (Hong Kong) then up to Europe. I originally planned to start in Singapore and work through Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam but the recent situation in Bangkok has made me nervous. I'm trying to stay as safe as possible. I want to do as little backtracking as possible. I have saved up a bit of cash and am using the trip as a personal sabbatical/soul searching. My time frame can be up to a year on the road. What would a typical itinerary look like/do you have any alternate suggestions? What do people generally do when on the road for this long/any suggestions to stay busy during this time?
In a month, I'll be traveling abroad for the first time, all by my lonesome. Looking for helpful tips for a first-time international traveler. [more inside]
We're going to Portland for a week-long vacation (and maybe a moving trial run) in a few days. We've visited before, but this time we're taking our 2-year-old daughter, and I wanted to ask if there are any great toddler friendly destinations or day trips that we shouldn't miss. Any tips on kid-friendly restaurants and organic grocery shopping in NW Portland are also appreciated. [more inside]

I travel regularly for work -- at least one week out a month during down time and three weeks out during peak time. But, my schedule is usually domestic, and always gets me home after 5 - 6 days, 10 at most... till now. I'm departing Wednesday on a four-week trip: first leg = two-day stops in all four US time zones, second leg = two weeks in one European city, with zero time home. I'm feeling anxious about my preparation. [more inside]

Can anyone recommend some good stops on Highway I95 between NC and Florida? I'm driving to Florida after Christmas on Highway I95 and thought I'd consult the mefi hive for some suggestions on good stops for food or other things that are worth pulling off the road for periodically. I've driven the route before but I've always wished I knew of better places to eat than the usual chains/fastfood (ugh!) that have saturated the highway offramps. Roadside attractions are welcome, too (but not Pedro's tourist trap emporium at the NC/SC border).
I am planning to do a short-ish road trip from NoVA - Atlanta and back in 4 days. Along the way, I would like to accomplish a night at Smoky Mountains, an afternoon at a beach, a day in atlanta. How do you take a vacation? I want to take a few days off, get away from home, relax and not feel any particular pressure to do anything. It seems like every vacation I've ever been on has been work. If I'm not touring or driving, I'm skiing or hiking. I don't want to take time off and just be home, but I don't know how to travel and relax. Any general tips or specific vacation recommendations?
