I want the biggest and smallest. The rest can suck it.

Where can I find a list of the smallest things (and for that matter) the biggest things in America? I've got some time off coming I have to take and I'm thinking of taking a trip with my new camera to photograph some of these things. I'm thinking of stuff like the smallest bar in America. The biggest hamburger. The breeder of the smallest dogs. The biggest shoes. Stuff like that.

The only thing that would be ideal (but not entirely necessary) is that there's some sort of designation of some kind. Like a sign that says "Smallest town in Texas" or "Biggest shoe in Tulsa."

If someone has one of these lists somewhere please help me find it. If not, feel free to list anything you personally know about.

Teeny Tiny Foods Please!

We're having a "tiny food" party / BBQ, and I need menu suggestions. Sliders (obviously), cornichons (or gherkins) and tiny cupcakes are readily available. Coronitas (7 oz. Coronas) to drink. So, what else? Other mains, sides, desserts, beverages. Any suggestions would be helpful. NB: although I'm grilling the sliders, suggestions do not need to be limited to grill-friendly items. Thanks in advance.

Photoshop won't let me be small gracefully

Whenever I try to write in really small characters in Photoshop, or, come to think of it, save anything small (like an company logo for email signatures) - it comes out all blurred. I'm saving as non-interlaced PNG but I think the same would happen if it were a JPEG.

I've had this problem for quite a while, through several different versions of Photoshop. At the moment I'm on CS4. Photoshop isn't really my thing, I use it for touching up digital photos, not creating logos - but it would be great to get this resolved once and for all: how can I create tiny images without pixelation/blurring.

Any help appreciated! Thank you!

Tiny Toy Pocket Elctronic Keyboard of Magical Awesomeness

Help me find this tiny electronic pocket piano from my youth. I remember owning a couple of these at one point - I received them from my grandpa around 1988 or 89.

The stats, as I can remember them from all those many long, bleak years gone by -

- I think one octave.
- Very small, maybe 1/2" thick, 3.5" long and 2" wide.
- Came in a little faux-leather sleeve? Or perhaps it was a sort of flap that covered the face of it, and I think it was yellow.
- Included a little card with a song list on it?
- Produced a tiny little note when you depressed a plastic button - the buttons had practically no action at all - really more like a clicker than a button.
- Filled me with joy.

Tiny wide shoes?

Do cute 5.5 wide shoes exist? I have little tiny 5.5 wide feet, and currently own only shoes from SAS. They are extremely comfortable but far from fashionable. Payless also makes my size, but they are too cheap to be worth it. Otherwise, as far as I know, wide shoes start around a 7. I tried buying bigger heels and stuffing the toes with wool, like a ballerina, but found my toes slipping out. I can also occasionally squeeze into a girls 3 (born) as children's shoes run slightly wider.

Is there any place that makes CUTE 5.5 wide shoes? I daydream about colorful heels and trendy ankle boots but would gladly settle for some nice well-fitting maryjanes & loafers.

Itty, bitty, teeney, tiny chicken...how does one cook this?

In our meat share this month, we got two (adorable) but completely confusing tiny little chickens. What can I do with these things? Friends of ours tried to grill them and, while they proclaimed them to be tasty, recommended that we try to keep them whole.

I've roasted a chicken before, but never something so small. I mean, look at these things! A drumstick is the size of my thumb! I'm super intimidated as I am not the greatest cook to begin with and this is completely foreign to me. Searching for "tiny chicken" on the Internet wasn't as helpful as I thought it would be

Help? Ideas?

Hope my tiny Firefox!

What's your best advice for reading multi-column and other large-minimum-width websites on a 480x800 screen? I have an Asus Eee 4G, running stock Ubuntu Gutsy. I really like rotating the video output so I can read things by holding the Eee like a paperback and thumbing the space bar, but many contemporary multi-column websites look like poo in Firefox 2.0 due to their fixed column widths running off the right hand side of the screen (as in this Digg screenshot which I totally didn't plan to have an Eee callout in). What should I do? I'm open to installing any addons or using other software in Ubuntu; I would install non-Ubuntu software if it was clearly for the win.

I found this 2005 question about full-page scaling in Firefox, indicating that it'd be in Firefox 1.5. I gather from ars technica that rendering for page scaling is in 3.0 previews but as far as I can google there's no UI for it yet?

And for the record, metafilter looks fantastic out of the box. :) Props to mathowie for bucking layout trends!

What can I do to get rid of a deep but tiny scar on my cheek?

What can I do to get rid of a deep but tiny scar on my cheek? Around 8 years ago I had what I believed to be a blackhead pimple on my left cheek. The general practitioner made a small incision to make an opening and squeezed the 'Stuff' out. For a long time now that specific area has no pimple problems. For most of my life, my face is usually almost pimple free. Problem is: I have a permanent scar and it looks like a deep pimple hole. Yeah I know, people are starving out there somewhere and I'm worrying about a tiny scar...

Anyways, that doctor has told me I can't cover it up as it will create a blockage, and something to do with 'cist' forming. Any skin experts please advise!

I have considered, 'melting' that area or removing the skin (along with the hole) creating a new bigger scar that is Flat (by medical practitioners of course).

Any advice or recommendations are welcome!

Trying to find a specific photo book I once saw with photos of tiny apartments

The book that got away! Trying to find a small photo book I once saw with photos of (truly) tiny apartments.
Clues:
- The book itself is small, maybe 6 or 7 inches tops on a side (and possibly square shaped rather than rectangular)
- It's more than an inch thick
- It's paperback
- It was published in 1999 or earlier (I saw this in a bookstore in the U.S. in fall 1999)
- All photos are in color
- Text is in English, or possibly in several languages including English. I feel like there was not much text (mostly just photos)
- Many (possibly all?) of the spaces are in Japanese cities
- Most (possibly all?) of the spaces are apartments or rooms, not freestanding houses
- These are real "tiny spaces" (more like 100 or 200 sq ft than like the 400 or 500 sq ft some other books call "tiny")

This was the coolest book. I so wish I'd bought it when I had the chance. I have looked for it in a few well-stocked bookstores (and tried searching online, but my keywords are not specific enough I think). Any ideas?

Override fonts for specific websites

My eyesight just isn't what it used to be. How do I force specific websites to show up with a larger font in Firefox? I've tried Tools/Options/Advanced and set the Minimum font size to 12, but then some sites I visit end up getting all screwed up. I really want to selectively change, say The Morning News or Kottke.org so the text are larger than mouse poop, but meanwhile, not screw up the formatting when I go to Audible.com, which is what happens if I change the universal minimum font size.

What's the best ultra compact 5 megapixel (or more) digital camera that I can get?

UltraCompactDigicamFilter: What's the best ultra compact 5 megapixel (or more) digital camera that I can get? I'm in the market for an ultra-compact digicam. From looking at Amazon (where I'll be buying, thanks to some Christmas gift cards), I figure I'm looking in the £200 range, give or take. I know it's been previously discussed, but the last one I could find was way back in May (specifically asking about compacts) and the market is drastically different now. Here's what I'm looking for:

Ultra small - I'm talking card camera styles here

Big LCD - the standard appears to be 2.5" on the newer cameras

Good(ish) low light performance - I'm guessing lots of my pictures will be taken indoors, hanging out with friends

Still able to take good outdoors/landscape pictures - I want to be able to snap away when I'm out for a walk and that perfect picture presents itself

Decent lens quality - don't want the lens to be complete crap either.

Fast performance - shutter lag, AF, and off-to-picture time

Battery life - I'd like it to be reasonably decent

Video mode - 640x480 required, 30fps a nice-to-have

Sexiness - much as I hate to admit it, the sexiness factor is definitely important.

So far, my contenders are the Nikon Coolpix S1, Canon Ixus 55 (SD450 in N.A.), Sony DSC-T5, Casio Exilim EX-S500, Fuji Finepix Z1, and the Kodak EasyShare v550. Does anyone have any experience with any of these cameras? Any suggestions on brands to avoid at all cost? Any clear winners out of that list? They are all approximately the same size, have approximately the same specs (more or less), and are approximately the same prices. I've got a quick specs comparison up for anyone who might be interested in what I've researched so far... So - any ultracompact officianados out there?

How big is the Pitrpod Zepto?

I want to develop an education curriculum to teach kids (smart 9th graders to adults) about scale. That is, I want people to realize exactly how small things like atoms, photolithographed conduits and electrons are, and how large galaxies are. I've seen Powers of 10 both in video form, and on the web. I think its useful in learning this sort of thing, but it doesn't really capture how amazingly small things can be.

One thing my little (12-year-old) brother suggested was breathing out on a cold day. You can sort of see the fog as little water dots.

small apartment ideas

I'm moving into a new apartment this week, and it's pretty small by most standards. Does anyone have any decorating tips for tiny apartments (studios in particular), and suggestions for cheap places to get a new bed and other necessities? My new apartment is a second floor walkup in a restored victorian mansion. It's a studio, but the kitchen is a seperate room with breakfast nook, and I have a small (6x6) private balcony.

I've seperated from my husband so I have very little in terms of posessions. I need ideas for better use of space, and some cheapcheapcheap shopping suggestions. The only Ikea within driving distance to me is in Canada, so shopping there would get me hit with duty, and may negate the value aspect. Online is good.

I loved the small apartment decorating contest, but I'm not really a minimalist (I would sooner die than part with my books), and I can't afford the budget most of those people had.

So I wanted to get ideas from those on AskMe who've lived in tiny spaces, and managed to make it comfortable on next to no budget.
