Perfect comfortable earplugs for musicians?

I'm starting to get some ringing in my ears from various loud music/teaching/gigs/etc, and looking for earplugs that I can wear for hours at a time, with decently flat (i.e. not muffled) attenuation. I have these and they're great sound-wise, but uncomfortable long-term. Soft foam earplugs are comfy but too deadening & muffling. Any suggestions? Extra points for relatively invisible earplugs, so I don't have to explain myself 50 times a day.

A New Case of Tinnitus

Eight days ago, my friend started suffering from tinnitus. She hasn't yet been able to see a specialist, but her primary care provider and others suspect that it will be permanent. She would like advice, particularly about how to reduce the probability that the tinnitus will become permanent. Thank you! She lives in the SF Bay Area.

Potential triggers to increased Tinnitus intensity

I have a friend who suffers from tinnitus which is variable in intensity and am looking for triggers or insight into the pattern. There is a rough pattern to the intensity of the train wheel-like screeching – generally, he has 3 days when it’s bearable and then 2 when it is unbearable. I’m not looking for coping or masking strategies but trying to understand what could be causing the rise in intensity. [more inside]

Background noise for tinnitus and insomnia?

I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night, and Have My Hearing

Should I go to an upcoming show of one of my favorite musicians? I got Tinnitus from a rock show 2 weeks ago. Most of it has faded away, except for the smallest beep that I can't hear unless it's silent. I really want to see this artist, but I can't put in ear plugs without them falling out, and I was scared after getting tinnitus and don't want to damage my hearing. Help! YANMD, etc. [more inside]

SSRI induced tinnitus, what's the prognosis?

I took Zoloft for under 2 months and developed intermittent tinnitus when I went up to 100mg. I started tapering off slowly and stopped entirely a few days ago. It seems to have gotten more persistent. I also still have a lingering low level anxiety that's making it hard to focus and get back to normal sleep patterns.

Are the ear drops causing Tinnitus or the ear infection itself

Went to the Dr Thursday as ear felt blocked and was a bit sore after a week long cold. Diagnosed with an ear infection and prescribed Cortisporin Otic Solution (neomycin and polymyxin B sulfates and hydrocortisone otic solution) since then ear doesn't sound any clearer, although it isn't painful at all now but I've also developed tinnitus. Which is more likely this being due to the drops, or the infection? [more inside]

Scared of Losing my Hearing

I have been noticing recently that I have a hard time knowing what people are saying to me at work, so I usually just nod and laugh or something. my hearing feels a bit muffled and sometimes at night my ears ring for no real reason (tinnitus?). I also listen to music when I jog through ear buds. It doesn't feel like I'm playing the songs too loud, and I listen to my ipod about every other day for about an hour. I am gonna hold out on any more listening until i figure out what's going on. I recently went to my ear nose and throat doctor and had a hearing test. He said it came back next to perfect. This confused me. Should I consult an audiologist? I feel like I'm struggling to hear others, especially when there is background noise. If anyone can give me any feedback, I'd surely appreciate it. I am 30 btw.

Tinnitus After Antibiotics

I'm recovering from a bout of pneumonia for which I was prescribed a 5-day course of Azithromycin. I'm feeling much better, but I'm bothered by tinnitus. Googling has revealed that my antibiotic may have cause this. If so, will it go away eventually and/or is there anything specific I can do to help it go away? I really don't want to - and can't afford to - pay for another doctor visit if this is something that will go away on its own. [more inside]
