Ongoing workshop decluttering

I tend to accumulate surplus hardware (brackets, hinges, etc) in the workshop. Lately I've been thinking of timing things out: if some random part been idle for X months then dispose of it. I'm wondering if anyone has used a scheme like this and what the pros and cons might be. Logistically I was just going to date-stamp things on the day they get added to the random collection of parts, and make a periodic pass to weed out unused items.

Any ideas on how to fix my modem's T3 & T4 time-out problem?

In the last six months my Charter cable modem has started randomly rebooting itself, sometimes up to 15-20 times a day, due to T3 & T4 time-outs. Could you please look at my modem logs and tell me if you have any other ideas about how to fix this problem? [more inside]

No, they toilets don't spin opposite of the northern hemisphere.

I was just recently in Buenos Aires. The Time Out Guide had the maps in the back oriented with north facing down. Why? I would think southern hemisphere maps would still face north up due to magnetic north and wayfinding with a compass. Was this just a case of Time Out being wrong/different/thinking logically that the south pole would be the desired direction of orientation in the southern hemisphere? And yes, we were perpetually lost until we flipped the guide upside down and west/east left/right were as they should be.

my pings dont come back

I only ping intermittently if at all, to a wireless router whenever bittorrent is started. Its not upload/download limits/bandwidth or the usual, as there does not need be any data tranfer to time out, just having the BT program running. Bittorrent itself is fast as a button throughout. hotmail is leaving me out in the cold

When I try to log into hotmail, I get this error: "The operation timed out when attempting to contact..." This has been going on for a week. Yet my husband can get into his hotmail account just fine. I've tried logging in using Firefox and IE, but I get the error in both browsers. I've tried on my desktop and my laptop. Neither works. My husband can get into his hotmail using any browser and any PC. What gives? Does hotmail have a vendetta against me?

Firefox at Work

I really love using Firefox instead of IE as my browser, but I'm having problems with Firefox at work. About half the time I try to use it at work, it won't load anything. It tells me that the page timed out. Whenever this happens, I have to browse with IE instead until Firefox starts working again, several minutes later. I have no problems with Firefox at home. I've heard this is a firewall-related issue, but I don't really understand. Is there a way to fix this?
