Timecode Filter

Does any one know of a free or inexpensive software that will use the computers sound card to generate LTC timecode. I would like to be able to use a PC as a master clock to feed time of day time code to various decks. I have seen this software but not much else. Thanks!!

Please help me get rid of audio and add a time code in mpg files.

I am looking for software that is able to take out the audio and add a time code to .mpg files I get from my camcorder. I know there are lots of programs that can add the time code, but I'm hoping someone knows a free/low cost program that can easily do both.

Removing Overlay Text from Canon XL2 MiniDV

A friend recorded six hours of footage on MiniDV using a Canon XL 2, but the cameraman accidentally left a setting turned on that recorded the timecode, battery life, and other display information directly on top of the video footage. Is there any way to remove this? (posting for a friend) First and foremost: This is NOT just a playback setting that's putting the information on the tape: the timecode etc shows up when the video is played on an external MiniDV player, and when we press Pause the millisecond counter gets blurry, like when you pause fast-motion video. The text is clearly part of the recorded video.

Is it totally hopeless? My small glimmer of optimism is that maybe this text information is recorded on a separate and removable "track."

How do I add time code to a Quicktime movie?

How do I add time code to a Quicktime movie? I have QT pro, and need a simple way of adding non-standard timecode (timecode that starts at 00:58:00:00) to a Quicktime movie. I am on a Mac. Is there an easy way to do this?

Time of day into timecode?

Is there an easy way to translate a time of day ("10:50:13") into video time code? I'm working with some video logs that were made by someone who jotted down the time of day displayed on the footage rather than the actual timecode. The time of day is not displayed on the footage I'm trying to work with.

Assuming I can synch up the first time of day entry with its corresponding timecode (based on content), is there some way I can extrapolate from there? Translate it? I'm driving myself crazy going back and forth between hours:minutes:seconds and hours:minutes:seconds;frames.

Rip a DVD, add timecode?

I know how to copy a DVD to my PC. How do I add a timecode? If it matters, I'm trying to transcribe the audio portion of a DVD of about 2 hours' worth of poorly recorded presentation using technical terms I may not be familiar with. I'm going to need to show in the transcript where the term "blahblahblah" was spoken so someone smarter than me can go into the video, listen to it, and identify the words.

Timecode Calculator

Timecode filter: how do I subtract a given number of frames from 400 timecodes in an Excel spreadsheet? Video timecodes are in the following format (for NTSC non-drop frame) - hh:mm:ss:ff. The ff represents frames, of which there are 30 per second (00 - 29). I want to subtract 5 frames from 400 different timecodes, all of which are less than a minute long.

The best I've come up with so far is removing the hh:mm using find and replace (because all the video clips are under a minute), then using the LEFT and RIGHT Excel functions to separate the seconds and frames into individual columns, then multiplying the seconds by 30 to give their length in frames, adding the seconds column to the frames column to give total frames and then subtracting 5.

This is as far as I've got - I'm not sure if this is the best method, and I don't know how to return the total frames to the original hh:mm:ss:ff format (including that single digit seconds and frames require a leading 0 added).

I've Googled all over the place and whilst there are several timecode calculators available, they only do individual calculations as opposed to batches. And yes, I've tried www.belle-nuit.com - unfortunately the Excel macro doesn't work correctly on current versions of Excel, and the Filemaker Pro plug in appears to only do individual calculations.

I have Excel 03 on XP Pro, and easy access to Macs if required. Any ideas? Thanks.

Repairing M2V files

DVD ReEditing woes: The video stream from a DVD has bad metadata, and repairing the m2v file I've ripped hasn't worked. I've tried ripping a DVD of a student film with both SmartRipper and DVD Decrypter while demultiplexing the video and audio streams into seperate files. I don't think the DVD includes proper metadata in the video stream, because when I try to open the m2v files created by either program there are a number of problems with the file. The timecode is wrong, the aspect ratio and framerate are incorrect, and the duration shows as zero frames.

The m2v file plays in a few of my players with an incorrect aspect ratio, but in the software I'm going to be editing with, it appears as a zero frame length movie file. It's supposed to be 29.97 fps, 16x9, and about 14 minutes long, but it shows up as 30 fps, and 00:00:00;00 long. I've tried using both ReStream and DVDPatcher to repair the header, but the files they have output have the same problems as the m2v I give them.

How can I get the file to play nicely in my timeline?

Insert the image of a vid's timecode onto the picture itself ?

How can I insert the image of a video's timecode onto the picture itself ? [MI] I have lots of footage from a department in our company on non-timecoded format that is to be included in a presentation.

What I'd like to do is to capture each tape, burn a DVD of the captured footage with a cohesive timecode displayed on the screen so the person chosing the footage can take the DVDs home and come up of a list of clips referenced by time rather than description.

Currently, I'm using Adobe, but am not adverse to using other programs.
