I'm thinking about using
Damminix tick tubes around my yard to reduce the population of deer ticks, but I'm concerned about the possibility that any cats who catch and eat mice that have the permethrin on their fur might be poisoned.

LymeDiseaseFilter: Have you or someone you're close to had Lyme, had it treated, and more-or-less lived to tell the tale? I'm seeking anecdata to help me calibrate exactly how freaked out I should be about this diagnosis.

I volunteer at a nature preserve which is known to have wood ticks & deer ticks. People have gotten Lyme disease from tick bites there, so out of concern for our household critters, I take off my clothes in the garage upon returning home and proceed directly to the shower.
Would any ticks on said clothing migrate to the rest of the garage, or would they stay put until I pick up the pile & put it through the washer?

Is there a routine for keeping my new dogs (and myself) free from ticks and fleas? Bonus points if there's no flea/tick collar or expensive treatment involved.

I am having a problem keeping ticks off my dog. He is on Advantix, which the vet said to give him every 3 weeks, but I am STILL finding ticks on him. He is kept indoors for the most part, but he does like to explore the backyard, and we go on a long walk each day. I don't want to keep him cooped up, I want to let him be a dog, but I don't want to have to keep taking ticks off him...so gross. Any advice on things to try other than Advantix? Thanks!

What's the best way to keep ticks off of an active, outdoorsy cat (brand recommendations welcome)? Also, is there anything we can spray around her perch to keep any ticks that do hitch a ride from jumping off in the house? (Am already experienced in removing them once we find them, but she seems to pick up the really tiny sort.)
