or perhaps buy insurance in case i am not able to fly? (I am still unsure....)

any workaround appreciated! its three tix worth $2500 total if i lose them...

Battle of Chicago tickets

I suddenly find I am going to be in the Windy City next weekend and would love to score tix to the Friday afternoon Cubs/White Sox game at US Cell. What's the best reliable way to get tix? In the past I have had no problem getting tix from scalpers out front of Wrigley. Is it the same at US Cell? Otherwise, any suggestions? Ticketmaster is useless and I hate them.

How can I quickly design and print event tickets for my theatre group?

My community theatre group forgot to have tickets printed for this weekend's show. I'd like to use a template and print them on my office copier to help the group save money. Is there an online program that will help me do this easily? I have MS Office 2000 programs, but the built in templates don't want to cooperate.

Guidance would be appreciated.

What's the best way to get rid of these tickets?

I've got tickets to the Sonoma Jazz Festival that I can't use. Have any tips on getting ride of them? I've listed them on craigslist with a substantial discount on price (100 instead of 208 as well as 100 instead of 168 for a sold out show). I didn't pay for them, so it's not important that I make face value. Mostly, I just hate the idea of them not getting used just because my wife broke her foot. It's probably a long shot, but are there any other online venues/sources where people who might be interested in these tickets might be hanging out?

I want to buy tickets to a Yankee's / A's game in Oakland, but only if Chien Ming Wang is pitching. How/when can I find out when he's pitching, and how far ahead should I buy tickets? I'm trying to buy tickets for some friends visiting town who are fans of Chien Ming. How can I make sure to get tickets for them?
Possible follow up - any good ticket brokers in the SF/Oakland area who could do this for me?

A Harley is a motorcycle, right?

Please help me enjoy the Harley Davidson 105th Anniversary tickets I just bought! My partner is a big Bruce Springsteen fan, so even though we're not Harley types, I just bought tickets to the Harley Davidson 105th Anniversary festival in Milwaukee at the end of August, where Bruce and the E Street band are headlining. Unfortunately, I've now found that every hotel within 50 miles of the city is booked solid. I live only 1.5 hours away in Chicago, so we could drive into Milwaukee just for the day (or just for the Bruce concert), but even then, I'm worried about finding parking and navigating the city in general. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The TicketMonster is coming to eat you!!!

With the internet making it much easier to sell things remotely, how is Ticketmaster still able to virtually monopolize event ticket sales? It seems like breaking into the ticket vending business ought to be made easier by the internet, but still ticketmaster controls most ticket sales in the United States. I know that they often have exclusivity agreements with venues or teams, which is still a huge part of it. But are the bonuses they offer still really worth it? Why is the possibility of other vendors coming in and offering better deals than TM not enticing enough to events and venues? And why don't more venues choose to save money by selling their own tickets online? I guess I can see why. I would require additional staff to handle that operation. So maybe a better question is, are places that do this just throwing money away, or are they onto something that others just aren't following? Getting back to exclusivity. I would think that it'd be hard for a new company to just come into the business and start selling tickets to big arena and stadium events. But what prevents them from starting with smaller venues by just offering better prices than TM? What else is preventing other companies from breaking into the ticket vending biz?

And please, PLEASE, let's not turn this into a Ticketmaster pile-on. Just the facts, ma'am.

W.A.S.T.E. of a question, but I need a script that will perform a diff and play an alert sound when a reload reveals that the HTML page has changed relative to the previous reload. I have firefox set to refresh a page every 30 seconds, but I'd rather not stay up all night waiting for the page to change.

So, is there any kind of script that someone would like to write for me, or one that is preexisting that will play an alert sound once it detects any change in the page?

Bonus points if it works for multiple tabs.

Thanks!

Playoff Tickets Options Pricing

SportsMathFilter: How do I correctly price playoff ticket options? I buy 1/4 of a the season tickets from a season ticket holder for a NBA team in Los Angeles. That team is not the Lakers (don't laugh). For the 2008-2009 season, I want to buy an option on playoff tickets. How would I correctly determine a fair price for these options?

I imagine I would take into account the likelihood of them going to the playoffs but have no idea what other variables I would consider or the formula would look like.

I do know the formula will be different depending on how many games and which rounds of the playoffs, so feel free to assume either (1) all home games for the first round or (2) all home games through to the finals.

I am lousy at math, so if you provide a very complex formula, I would greatly appreciate an English explanation alongside explaining the logic.

Best strategy for buying Red Sox tickets mid-April

Wife, kid and I are going to Boston in mid-April for the Marathon, and we'd like to take in a Red Sox game since kid is a huge fan. We are not regular MLB ticket purchasers though. Should we buy tickets now at 2X list price from a broker, or wait until closer to game day and hope the price drops? Are weekdays less likely to sell out? (teams on the schedule are Rangers and Angels, and it's Marathon weekend).

Help me score tickets for the NCAA tourney

Here is the situation. I live near DC and would like to attend the Purdue - Baylor game, which is the 2nd game of session 1 on Thursday afternoon. Given that none of the 4 schools involved (Purdue - Baylor - Xavier - Georgia) are from the DC area, and none of them inspire particularly national followings, do you think I can score a good deal by waiting until after game 1 starts and working the ticket resellers loitering around the Verizon Center? I seem to recall watching plenty of first round games on TV where the arena was not even close to full because the teams were not local. I can buy on Ebay for close to face value, but if odds are good that I can save $100 on a pair of tickets by waiting until the last possible second, I'll take the risk. After all it's just a basketball game.

Looking for input from anybody that might have attended early round games under similar circumstances in recent years.

Is this form of ticket scalping illegal?

I'm interested in purchasing tickets to a sold-out sporting event in a state (Missouri) where scalping is illegal. The law for Missouri says, "Prohibits scalping tickets but allows resellers to impose a service charge (Mo. Rev. Stat. § 578. 395)."

Many of the online sellers (eBay, Craigslist) are selling the tickets as "extras" with some other arbitrary item such as a broken coffee mug or a baseball hat.

e.g. "You're bidding on a baseball hat, and winner also gets two tickets to Game A."

Is this a legal way to skirt the law? Does this count as a "service charge," thus making it legal?

I'd like to buy some tickets, and I don't mind the inflated price, but I'd also not like to do anything illegal in the process.

I have a couple of Pogues tickets for this Saturday that I can't use. What's the best way to unload them?
Real Madrid Tickets, Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, More inside... Has anyone ever bought tickets to a European match (specifically La Liga) on-line from the US?

Any advice on where to go as well as how not to get ripped off? The match I'm interested in wouldn't be considered a big rivalry so tix should be available. I checked some of the immediate google search results and the tickets seemed way more expensive than I expected, anywhere from 70-180 Euros.

I paid approx. 20 Euros to see a Champions League match at the same stadium in 2001. Have they gone up that much? Thank you much for the help-

Is stubhub safe?

Is stubhub a good site for selling tickets (I just want face value)? If not stubhub, what would you use? It looks like I might end up with 2 extra tickets to a bowl game. I don't care about making any money, I just don't want to lose much (I don't mind eating the application fee and the shipping etc.) Is stubhub a safe way to sell? It sounds like I get a check after the buyer gets the tickets - what prevents the buyer from saying I never sent them? (I know stubhub gives you a fedex label with tracking info, but there must be something more)

I've seen people on askme recommending it for buying tickets - is it good for selling? I'm not too keen on ebay, and I've considered craigslist, but it's a little flooded at the moment (although since I'm asking for facevalue, I'd be a little cheaper than some). If I go with craigslist - how do I do it safely? Ask them to pay in cash and meet at the bank?

Sorry if this came out frantic - I'm a bit worried about selling these tickets now that I see a bunch of other people doing the same.

At TicketMaster, "Best" is a relative term

How to get the best seats vs what Ticketmaster says are the best available? OK, I reviewed some past Ticketmaster threads and haven't seen this addressed specifically.
I'm looking for tickets to a local small venue show, and Ticketmaster offers up 2 seats in Row N. I try again, same seats. Try a 3rd time, same seats.
Then I ask for 3 tickets instead of 2, and get seats 5 rows closer. I imagine I could play this game for hours, adding more seats, selecting specific theater sections, etc...but why am I not being offered the best available 2 seats in the theater?

Any tricks to really get the best seats available?

Do cruise prices fluctuate in the crazy fashion that airline tickets do?

Do cruise prices fluctuate in the crazy fashion that airline tickets do? Or do they just get more expensive as it gets closer to the departure date? I've been looking into a Royal Caribbean Cruise and the price has increased by 20% in just over a month period. One month ago the price was $400, and this past week it has been set steady at $500. The kicker is that the cruise doesn't set sail until Mid-April... at least 6 months from now so it just seems odd the price would jump so much.

This is for a 5 day cruise in Asia, which isn't as common as those for the Carribean, Bahamas, etc., so shopping around with other cruise lines is a limited option.

I've tried googling information on this but have only returned scammy looking cruise sales websites. Any industry insiders who know more about this?

Should I buy now or hold out and pray prices go down?

Selling theatre tickets

In haste, I ordered tickets to a Cirque du Soleil event from a web site that charged much more per ticket than Ticketmaster. Now that I know the difference, how can get rid of these tickets and get my money back? Will I get in trouble for selling these tickets for more than they cost, and how do these companies get away with doing this? I Googled Cirque du Soleil tickets and picked the first item. I also checked the box that stated that sales were final. When I went back and did some research, I noticed that I could have purchased tickets from Ticketmaster for much much less. I paid almost $300 more for tickets.

Do any of the airfare search websites allow extremely broad searches? My travel times are very flexible. The airfare search sites I'm familiar with only allow flexibility to the extent of a few days +/- a set date. I want to do a search that is flexible to the extent of +/- a few months. I also want to choose only the departure city and then be able to see a huge list of destinations around the world.

In other words, I want to see a list of all possible international flights leaving from a specific airport on any day in the next 6 months and returning any day within X number of days after arrival. And I only want to see the flights under $Y. Of course this could result in thousands of possible results, which is just fine with me.

I understand why this probably does not already exist but might it be possible to create such a search using yahoo pipes?

how good are the cheap seats at an NFL game?

Please help me decide which seats to buy for a Dallas Cowboys home game. I've never seen a Cowboys home game, and I'm about to buy tickets to the 10/14 Pats game. The tickets are quite expensive, and I would like to purchase the least expensive tickets that will let me see the game well enough to enjoy it and be engaged.

I am looking for people who've been to NFL games and have an opinion about upper deck, corner, or end zone seating, and have recommendations.
