What friendships will show in my friends' Facebook ticker?

On Facebook, my friends' list is set to completely private ("only me"). This should mean that when I friend someone with a private / friends-only friends list, the new friendship should NOT show up in my friends' tickers unless they already know that person. However, what if I add someone with a public friends' list - will it show up in my other friends' tickers despite my privacy settings? [more inside]

My big screen tv needs a sidecar of awesome.

We're setting up our dream media room and I'd like to dedicate a second, smaller monitor that will be alongside our larger tv to displaying weather, scores, news, in a ticker-like fashion. I'm envisioning watching baseball games while the MLB Gameday thing follows along to the side. Or maybe a mock Wrigley-style old school school board of other games. Or weather advisories or news flashes being able to pop up while I'm watching a movie. Really, the possibilities are endless. What's my best way to do this? [more inside]

How to hide updates in Facebook ticker?

How do I hide certain updates from the Facebook ticker on my main page? (The ticker is that real-time-updating list of news on the right side of the web page.) In particular, I want to hide updates from Words with Friends (e.g. "Aunt Idontgetsettings played OLD in Words With Friends") and Spotify. [more inside]

I want to have some sort of easily-editable text box floating on the top level of whatever I'm doing in Windows. Think, like, a sticky note or a ticker. [more inside]

Measure how noisily I sleep :-)

I have a pretty bad case of night terrors. I am turning to the hive mind to help me identify a cheap and effective solution/device that will record the times when I'm audible throughout the night. I don't want to know what I'm saying as it sometimes freaks me out (nothing scary, I'm just weirded out by listening to myself yell/whisper subconciously). So a tape/voice recorder is out of the running. In short, I need to know what time I make noise, and maybe a little squiggle or number on a piece of paper/read out screen letting me know how loud I was relative to the rest of that night (I'm thinking of the needle that scrbbles on rolling paper with a time stamp next to it like a seizmograph). Any suggestions? This can be hand made or purchased as long as it's not too expensive :-)

Good streaming charts of market prices

Finance: Where can I find streaming charts showing market indexes, plus currencies and NYMEX commodities/futures? Delayed data is ok; I'd just like good charts that update and which show the commodities/metals too. A lot of the charts I found don't update or don't have NYMEX.
