I have to be in class for 6 hours with someone who is doing something that drives me beetles. What can I do to make class bearable? [more inside]
I've posted about my adventures in health before. I have a clusterfuck of reflux symptoms but most tests--not all--are coming back normal. I met with a surgeon today, after my most recent test came back normal, and he said there was nothing they could do. I'm at a loss and wondering if any of it could be psychological. More inside. My 17-year-old daughter started getting a sore throat Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday morning she was pretty miserable--couldn't swallow without extreme pain (like literally crying), sore neck/lymph nodes, lots of sinus congestion. [more inside]
Mr.K has a growth in his throat. When he went to an ENT clinic, two months ago, the doctor looked at it, said he had no idea what it was but was sure it wasn't cancer (didn't do a biopsy). In the last 3 days it has doubled in size. Mr.K has an appointment on Thursday, but is wondering if he should be considering the ER. I can't even do online research on this; all I get is info about throat cancer. Any personal experience out there? [more inside]
In London for a couple weeks. New & painful sore throat. Does anyone routinely test for bacterial strep here? [more inside]
How worried should I be that I'm losing my voice? My voice started sounding crackly and husky on Monday and has got worse and worse over the week. I am a personal trainer and singer, so I rely on my voice. I have no pain and no symptoms of being unwell. Is there anything it could be besides vocal nodules? Should I visit my GP? What should I do? [more inside]
Does anyone have any recommendations or knowledge of convalescent homes in the UK? My brother has just undergone some seriously brutal radiotherapy and cancer treatment for throat cancer. He's been out of the hospital for a few weeks and is now at my parents, but it looks like it could be a very slow road to recovery. He currently can't eat or drink, is very nauseous, at risk of dehydration all the time. [more inside]
Whenever I get the slightest bit sick, I always feel it first in my throat. Having an itchy throat where it hurts to swallow is no fun, and this extended winter we've been having has been no help! I treat it with plenty of water, honey lemon ginger tea, and cough drops, of course, but I'm wondering whether there's anything I can do preemptively to keep my throat from being less vulnerable. If you used to have a tender, wimpy throat that now weathers stress and rapid changes in temperature like a champ, I'd love to hear what you changed (be it food, vitamins, habits, or something else entirely)!
What's the best, travel-friendly way to soothe a dry, post-flu cough? [more inside]
I have been singing more - again! - recently. I've always loved to sing, but I haven't done it any organized way since high school. I warm up, I've read about proper vocal technique, but I am clearly doing something wrong because my throat is starting to feel tight. Help! [more inside]
I'm curious if anyone else has a specific place in their body where they feel tired. If I'm quite underslept, I have what I believe are standard feelings of leaden limbs and blurry, burning eyes, but I also have a specifically localized feeling that's hard to describe, in the back of my throat, in the pharynx. It just feels thick and very, very tired back there. I'm not sure why I feel exhaustion in this manner--can anyone speculate or enlighten me?
I noticed red bumps on the roof of my mouth and one on each side of my throat I took a video of it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arPZ5kERdVQ what is the cause of it?
I went to the ear nose and throat doctor today for a ear problem and he "puffed" boric acid powder into my ears that was in a clear glass bottle with a metal horizontal straw that puffed the white powder. Is this usually pure boric acid powder or do they dilute it with cornstarch or baby powder or something. It seems like it would be too strong to use the pure stuff but what do I know.
I've had a long term singing problem that has been difficult to solve. I have been to a medical voice clinic and had some of the fancy tests and vocal cord images, and I will be going back, but I have a new idea to float to the MD and I wonder if anyone has encountered this issue. [more inside]
I noticed the last couple days almost every time a take a sip of water a little goes down the wrong hole into my lungs and makes me cough. What is wrong with me? I should mention I have acid reflux but I have had it for over a year now with nothing like this happening.
I was taping an ethernet cord over my doorframe with vinyl electrical tape. I can't find the label, but I remember it had a warning saying that the tape contains chemicals that the state of California recognizes to cause cancer. After maybe ten minutes of futzing with it (and breathing), I have a minor headache, my throat hurts a lot, and breathing feels weird and cold. Page 2 of this document warns about fumes from molten electrical tape, but I didn't heat it. Was the warning label accurate? I can't find any scientific info online. Should I take this stuff down from my walls, or will it be OK now that I'm no longer actively handling it?

My sweet boyfriend's dearest friend has been diagnosed with Hodgikn's Lymphoma. Last time we saw him he was complaining about a lump in this throat, and saying they didn't know what it was but not to worry, he was probably just getting over an infection. Typical blase doctors, oh yeah forgot to mention, he is five years into a ten year prison sentence for some youthful foolishness. [more inside]

So I have been having this certain situation on and off for 8 years now. But lately, started last year, it looks like there's additional other discomfort added in my body. I am talking about my throat. I have this discomfort wherein I always feel the need to remove something from my throat, like phlegm or something. It's not actually painful, it's just annoying. And when I do so, sometimes there's some phlegm that comes out and sometimes, none at all. The phlegm that's coming out is also thicker and stickier than the normal ones we have when we are coughing or something. Right now, my neck is itchy also (as well as below my eyes) and like I said, it's uncomfortable because I feel as if there's something in my throat. [more inside]

All my life I've had this problem when doing any sort of cardio activity: my throat can stand my breathing for about 15 seconds before it starts to burn like hell. I've tried breathing differently, asking for medical advice, drinking various beverages before/during/after working out... nothing. It's happened when I've been in better shape and when I'm a lazy slob. So I avoid cardio, which I have always desperately needed. How can I overcome this and work out pain-free? [more inside]
