How do I find a therapist who doesn't suck?

I want to go back to therapy, but the last two people I tried were just terrible, and I am sick of blowing my outrageous copays on people who seem incapable of relating to me. How do I find someone who will actually help me? [more inside]

I have two questions related to my mental health.

I'm 24, and I live in the suburbs a half-hour north of Boston. I'm about to get health insurance that includes mental care. I don't know how the private healthcare system works. How should I get a mental-health diagnosis? What doctors and therapists in the area could help me with whatever problems I may have? Details inside. [more inside]

What would it be like to get therapy from a Blue Devil? What is a Blue Devil?

TherapyFilter: For a friend--I am looking for a lovely therapist in the Durham, North Carolina area (and reasonably nearby regions as well). The therapist would preferably be more interpersonal or psychodynamically/psychoanalytically oriented versus cognitive-behavioral or purely supportive, be queer-friendly, and also have some experience treating anxiety disorders. Feel free to MeMail or e-mail me if you do not want to post publicly. Thanks, MetaFilter!

mental health professionals near malden ma who're likely to have availability like omg NOW

Okay, situation. I need a 'yes this kid is messed-up' note from a doc/therapist/something to stay enrolled in the context of a history of major stretches of no-shows-to-class, no-turning-stuff-in etc. I'm extremely unfamiliar with the institutional health system so pardon me if this is a stupid question but is there such a thing as providers who'll diagnose/vouch for you with depression/ADD/whatever the eff my problem is within DAYS? like a week in ultimate maximum? And how do I find them? (Around Malden, MA) [more inside]

How should a therapist go about refusing to treat a patient?

A friend of mine underwent counseling at a trauma center. After the first several sessions, today his therapist had a supervisor come in, sat him down, and after 45 minutes of excruciating back and forth, essentially told him that because of what he did for a living, he could no longer attend therapy there.
