Hi. I would like to explore new ways to address my problem of too many thoughts. [more inside]
I'm an ASW in San Francisco, planning to have my LCSW by next year. I have many years of mental health experience and my ultimate goal is having my own psychotherapy practice. My mentors who are either LCSW's or MFT's are pretty negative about the state of private practice. Are there any clinicians in the Bay Area or elsewhere with success stories? Any words of advice on where to start? This is unfortunately not something they teach us in grad school. Thanks in advance!
Does anyone have any personal recommendations for a psychiatrist in the San Francisco Bay Area? [more inside]

My ongoing problems with my therapist have reached a head, but she is urging me not to leave. Having received humane and insightful responses from AskMeFi about another MH issue, I would really appreciate some perspective on this. [more inside]
I am looking for fictional depictions of therapy, preferably ones where it's taken seriously. More along the lines of In Treatment and The Sopranos than What About Bob? and Analyze This! [more inside]
I need to decide whether it's worth the trouble for me to go to therapy. I am fortunate to be able to afford it financially, but in terms of time and emotional energy, I am not so sure. Details inside. [more inside]
Asking for a friend who is an MFT. He is considering moving into private practice, however, he isn't ready to make the leap from a steady and reliable job to a job where income is very dependent on the size of your professional network--and he doesn't really have a professional network at all right now. Any tips on how to ease into private practice with a low initial commitment and pressure--just a part time thing with only one or a few clients?

TherapyFilter: For a friend--I am looking for a lovely therapist in the Durham, North Carolina area (and reasonably nearby regions as well). The therapist would preferably be more interpersonal or psychodynamically/psychoanalytically oriented versus cognitive-behavioral or purely supportive, be queer-friendly, and also have some experience treating anxiety disorders. Feel free to MeMail or e-mail me if you do not want to post publicly. Thanks, MetaFilter!
What are some specific ways that I can promote a soon-to-expire Kickstarter project? I've heard that projects sometimes gain momentum from that "act now!" boost, but how do I tap into that segment of the funding crowd? [more inside]
I think it might be time to start seeing a new therapist. My current therapist disagrees. So now I'm confused. Convince me that I'm right. [more inside]
Psychotherapy: can a therapist be right about progress and the client not see it? We often hear from people who are in psychotherapy and are in disagreement with their psychotherapist about whether they are making progress. When is the psychotherapist right? [more inside]
Is dream analysis as a form of therapy common these days? I've been looking for a new therapist. (I love my old one, but I'm moving.) I found one guy who seems pretty great... except I'm a little worried about his claim that he does a lot of dream analysis. [more inside]

With regards to psychotherapy, a common opinion I've noticed on MetaFilter is that Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is perceived as being the most efficient way to go, in addition to being one of the very few therapies likely to be reimbursed by health insurance. However, this may be coming from a largely American perspective. As such, I'm curious: What are some major features of psychotherapy in countries other than the United States? [more inside]
Are there really no side effects to cognitive-behavioral therapy? Has anybody had a bad outcome or weird experience? [more inside]
