Asking for a friend who is an MFT. He is considering moving into private practice, however, he isn't ready to make the leap from a steady and reliable job to a job where income is very dependent on the size of your professional network--and he doesn't really have a professional network at all right now.
Any tips on how to ease into private practice with a low initial commitment and pressure--just a part time thing with only one or a few clients?

TherapyFilter: For a friend--I am looking for a lovely therapist in the Durham, North Carolina area (and reasonably nearby regions as well). The therapist would preferably be more interpersonal or psychodynamically/psychoanalytically oriented versus cognitive-behavioral or purely supportive, be queer-friendly, and also have some experience treating anxiety disorders. Feel free to MeMail or e-mail me if you do not want to post publicly. Thanks, MetaFilter!

What are some specific ways that I can promote a soon-to-expire Kickstarter project? I've heard that projects sometimes gain momentum from that "act now!" boost, but how do I tap into that segment of the funding crowd?

Psychotherapy: can a therapist be right about progress and the client not see it?
We often hear from people who are in psychotherapy and are in disagreement with their psychotherapist about whether they are making progress. When is the psychotherapist right?

Is dream analysis as a form of therapy common these days? I've been looking for a new therapist. (I love my old one, but I'm moving.) I found one guy who seems pretty great... except I'm a little worried about his claim that he does a lot of dream analysis.

With regards to psychotherapy, a common opinion I've noticed on MetaFilter is that Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is perceived as being the most efficient way to go, in addition to being one of the very few therapies likely to be reimbursed by health insurance. However, this may be coming from a largely
American perspective. As such, I'm curious: What are some major features of psychotherapy in countries other than the United States?
