How do I pick the right therapist to help with my anxiety, stress, indecisiveness, and perfectionist tendencies? What kinds of therapy/techniques/approaches might be most helpful? How do I quickly assess whether to stick with someone or look elsewhere? What are reasonable expectations of how much I can improve in therapy and how quickly? I'm terrible at making decisions-- I need help! (Especially since we want to start trying for kids in a few months so I feel real urgency to make progress quickly to feel comfortable going ahead, for both my and the kid's sake.) DC-area, FYI. My only real experience with mental health practitioners was a brief stint with my free university counseling where I tried one or two medications for anxiety and depression. They didn't do anything for me and I became disheartened and left the idea behind for the past few years. Having gotten health insurance for the first time a few months ago and after some recent introspection, I've found myself interested in possibly trying some anti-anxiety/depression medication again, as well as some sort of ongoing psychotherapy. I'm searching for a therapist to help me deal with ongoing anxiety and insecurity issues. I came across someone who looks promising and practices ISTDP, which I had never heard of before. I did some googling and it looks legit, but wondered if any of you have any experience with this? thanks!
Very short and to the point question. A family member has been the victim of identity theft, and are doing very poorly in terms of mental health in the process of trying to cope. They have severe phone anxiety, social anxiety, etc, and this is emotionally destroying them. I need a therapist in the Atlanta metro area, preferably Dunwoody/Norcross area that is taking new patients ASAP and who has experience with ID theft and anxiety issues. Bonus if they take Blue Cross Blue Shield GA's Blue Choice POS insurance, but willing to pay if they don't.

I've come to the conclusion that some therapy/counselling would help me a lot, but as a life-long introvert I find the idea very intimidating and nerve-wracking. Looking for tips and encouragement on starting therapy, and recommendations for a good, preferably female and affordable, therapist in Vancouver BC. [more inside]

Is there such a thing as a therapist who deals specifically with anxiety stemming from money matters? [more inside]
For much of my life I dealt with rather severe depression and anxiety, which I've recently overcome with nearly 3 years of therapy. I'm 24 years old, trying to find a meaningful career that's more than just a paycheck. At this point, all I want to do is be a therapist. I want to help others the way that I've been helped. However, another issue I've been working to overcome is crippling social anxiety. It's gotten much better; I hardly consider myself shy anymore. Still, though, I'm not sure if I have the warm, trust-inspiring personality a therapist should have. Could I be a successful therapist if I'm far quieter and more reserved than the norm? I do love people and want to help, but sometimes I might not come across that way. Can a shy person be a good therapist?
