What looks good with #AFC398?

What should I read about Just War?

Do you have recommendations for good readings on Just War theory and debates? Any and all perspectives welcome, from Thomas Aquinas to modern day. Links to good summaries and reviews of leading works/thinkers very good too. This is for thesis writing, so especially looking for the academic or at least erudite. Thanks very much for any tips!!

A taxonomy of GAMES / game types?

Types of Games: I have come across various attempts to catalogue the possible varieties of stories that exist. The basic assumption being that all plots (narratives?) can be be boiled down to one among only a few types e.g. Hero leaves the kingdom; Hero steals fire, etc. I am looking for a similar classification system for GAMES, that is: how many fundamental types/kinds of game are there? Tickle Me Ivory

What is the best way to master scales, chords, and chord progressions on the piano / keyboard. More specifically, help me create harmony and melody. My husband and I are starting to create music on our computer. I think I have a pretty good ear for what sounds good, but I feel like a complete hack on the keyboard. I would like to become proficient at hitting keys that sound well together or next to each other. I am studying basic theory, but where does the rubber meet the road? Is it simply muscle memory? I am not really interested in playing a piece of sheet music, but if that will help, I will learn. I just want to create my own music. I know I have to practice, but practice doing what? I would be rather proud of myself if someone told me drop and play I V vi IV in F Major and I could do it without thinking.

Sacrifice, speech, writing and art

Sacrifice, speech, writing and art: I am interested in the different ways in which a sacrifice, a sacrament, a spoken word and a written word act as signifiers. The notion for instance that the sacrament, at the point of its acceptance, is understood as becoming the signified. What can you tell me / what has been written about the notions of sacrifice and their relationship to speech, art and the technologies of writing? [more inside]

Escaped from Greenock Prison

Browsing today's newspapers here in Scotland it would seem that there is an anti-Scottish feeling pervading the whole of the USA after the compassionate release of the Pan-Am bomber last week. Question1: Am I right in thinking that this is the case, or is it just right wing neo-con nonsense eminating from the Fox News stable? Question2: If this anti-Scottish feeling does exist, how best can I explain that we the UK/US public have been sold a lie by our Governments and that this guy was merely a patsy? [more inside]

Which demographics are the kinkiest?

KinkFilter: Is there currently any sociological research on sexual kinks, specifically long-term BDSM relationships?
