Somebody has decided to remove most of my door handle in an attempt to get into my car, or in a fit of rage, or something. Will getting it repaired through my insurance make my rates go up? Should I try and fix it myself?

My car was broken into, but nothing of value was stolen. Any benefit
in calling the police? Or should I just fix the window and move on?

Stolen prescription meds (I assume). Drugstore manager is unconcerned, or he's in on it. What should I do?

Do insurance investigators like Rene Russo/Faye Dunaway in The Thomas Crown Affair or Timothy Hutton on the Leverage show really exist in real life? I'm talking about people investigating high end theft as opposed to investigators working on medical fraud or arson. In the news, you really only see insurance investigators dealing with these smaller cases, with the police and FBI (and Interpol, I guess) working on big heists.

My apartment was broken into last week and the thieves stole my car keys (among other things). Curiously, they didn't steal my car out of the driveway on their way out, but I'm worried they might come back. I've got the Club protecting the car as best it can for now, but what else do I have to worry about?

An associate, while returning from a work site after 5 p.m. and was on a personal errand, had his car broken into and along with personal items, his work laptop was stolen. His homeowner's insurance covered his personal items, but obviously would not cover his work owned laptop. His employer, on the other hand, is demanding that he pay for the cost of the laptop (a 3 year old Dell bought for approximately $700, which they consider to be worth $590). He works for a fairly large non-profit located in Maryland. The laptop was purchased with a technical grant, which I expect would have demanded insurance. And he doesn't believe that he signed anything that would have made him liable.
What are his rights?

My car was broken into two nights ago, while we ate dinner at a restaurant. There is extensive damage, and I only have liability insurance on my car. Is there any way I can get compensation?

[UK Music Insurance] I always felt that my record collection was too personal/horrible/crap for anyone to bother stealing it, but a friend of mine who lives just round the corner has had most of his collection pilfered so now I'm not so sure. While my collection doesn't include many items that are in themselves valuable, just the number of CD's and records would make them very expensive to replace. Any ideas on what insurance options are available?
