A friend mentioned they were not to call AAA today about their car problems because it's a holiday and they don't want to inconvenience anybody. Would this really inconvenience people?

I am required to bring a "word of the day" to my Toastmasters club's next meeting. This word should be an interesting and useful word that will expand everyone's command of the English language and ideally would be fun to use. Twist:
I want it to be Thanksgiving or holiday season related if possible. My google-fu is failing me because I keep getting results meant for children's crossword puzzles ("pilgrim", "turkey", etc.). I'm looking for something more along the lines of "puritanical" or something like that. Can be historical, related to feelings or gratitude or even satirical of the holiday.

My son and I are both gluten-free and incredibly sensitive to cross-contamination. We are going to a big family thanksgiving where the food will not be GF and cross-contamination will ruin the food that normally is. (a serving spoon being shared between dishes or someone dropping bread crumbs on an open dish would leave me very sick).
I would like to bring dishes so my son and I can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal. I don't mind spending this whole weekend cooking and freezing so he has a nice Thanksgiving. The only problem is that everything we bring has to be microwavable...
So help me MFites. What are your favorite Thanksgiving recipes that would hold up well to being warmed up from frozen in a microwave. (Don't worry about the recipe being gluten-free -- I'm pretty good at converting recipes).

My family wants to have Thanksgiving in a central location for all of us. We've also talked in the past about renting a big house for all of us to get together in a beach town off season. Any suggestions on towns and/or specific properties or agencies that will result in a good holiday for all of us? [more inside]

Gluten-free Thanksgiving. My youngest sister was diagnosed with Celiac disease at the beginning of this year. She will be coming home for Thanksgiving and I'd like to make some gluten-free dishes for our family pot-luck style dinner. The interweb is chock-full of gluten-free recipes, but I don't know which ones are good and which are just meh. Please share your favorite gluten-free Thanksgiving-y recipes! [more inside]

Kosher substitute for salt pork? We want to make an America's Test Kichen recipe for Thanksgiving turkey. It calls for salt pork to be laid along the back of the turkey during the first part of the roasting process (with the breast-side down), like so
. ATK says this is called "barding" the turkey, which they say makes the bird "self-basting." [more inside]

I'm embarrassed to use up a question on this Can I Eat This-filter, but...
So I have some bags of cranberries in the freezer... that have been there since last year.
Can I use them in making cranberry sauce without courting death or intestinal discomfort?

I'm participating in a Thanksgiving potluck this weekend. I've been assigned a corn based dish - possibly a casserole of some sort. I'm not a good cook, but can manage simple things. Does anyone have any favorite corn based recipes that are more involved than heating up frozen or canned veggies? [more inside]

Specific Thanksgiving poem by a Latino author? I am trying to find a remembered poem for a professor about Thanksgiving that he remembers reading. Poem is in English, by a Latino poet, very funny, and about a young person explaining to his/her parents what Thanksgiving is/means. The prof thinks the poem was by a male author. I'm looking for a good restaurant near Rochester NY where we can go for Thanksgiving dinner. I can't see us cooking for hours when there's only going to be four of us this year.
My wife is going to want to eat a traditional turkey dinner, although I wouldn't mind eating a steak if I can get one.
