Ultra cool Thai hammock/tent query.

Years ago I was backpacking in Thailand and came across a combination hammock/tent being sold in Bangkok. They are made of nylon and seemed incredibly light and compact. Has anyone here ever bought one of these hammocks? Was it a good buy? And more importantly, where can I get one? [more inside]

Semester in SEA.

A friend wants to spend 3 or 4 months in South East Asia. His budget is US $3000 (including transportation). Is this enough money, if he stays in mid-range guesthouses? He is a writer, and is wondering if bringing his laptop is a good idea. He's been to China before, but is completely unfamiliar with South East Asia, and hasn't traveled extensively in the past. Any itinerary ideas would be appreciated.

Muay Thai Camps in Thailand

I'm thinking of going to Southeast Asia for a couple (3) months at the end of this year, and would like to spend about a month in Thailand, preferably at a kickboxing camp. I'm not into martial arts, it's just something I've always wanted to do. With the myriad of camps/locations available, I'm wondering if anyone has ever done it, and if they have any recommendations. I've already been to Pattaya, so I'm not looking to do the tourist thing. Probably quitting my job to do it, so I'll be on the cheap. Also, most airfares are coming up at around $1000 BOS/BKK. Does this sound like the typical deal or does anyone have any tips on cheaper airfares?

Building paper hot air balloons

Loi Krathong” (Festival of Light) is taking place right now across Thailand, during which balloon-like ‘Khom Loi’ lanterns including the ‘Khom Fai’ – a fire lantern are released into the night sky. They're "air bags of various shapes" made of "Tracing paper or Sa paper."

Has anyone ever successfully built one of these? Are there any sites on the net that give some direction on how to go about doing so?
