What are the alternatives to
pandoc? I'm looking for tools that will allow me to maintain a large document in a simple plain text format such as markdown and compile it to PDF and HTML.

I want to build a web page with expandable sections of text which default to not being expanded. Unfortunately, I'm a total javascript newbie. The way they did it here is pretty close to what I'd want (scroll to "anatomical focus"): http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/863 ....Is it possible (or, for that matter, ethical) to somehow grab the javascript they used? Alternatively, are there generic freeware scripts anywhere that do something similar? If there were any such repository with a variety of javascripts that do this slightly different ways, even better. If it's newbie friendly, even better still! Thanks!

I am in need of a server-side Linux or Unix-based software solution that will sort uploaded PDF files that can be PDF-native (that is, created in such a way that the text in the PDF is freely copyable), PDFs with embedded text over images (usually the result of a previous OCR job), and PDF-scanned, which are PDFs containing no text, only scanned images. The PDF-native files and PDFs with embedded text it will extract text from, the PDF-scanned files it will then OCR and export that text.

When I print from Word 2004 (Mac), the character spacing is slightly off, but definitely noticeable. Random letters in random words will be closer or further apart than other letters. This happens when I print to a PDF or physically print a document, but not in the regular Word display. What's going on?

Rumi poems online -- with both the original text and the English translation -- that would tell me how to speak his original texts? I would need either English transliterations (spelling in western alphabet of his original texts, with some way to know which syllable to accent) or an audio file of someone speaking them. Does this exist?

Soon I will be able to get a new cell phone on my contract with Verizon. My current phone, a Samsung A930 is a clamshell style, and it doesn't display whether or not I have a text message when it's shut. Are there any phones out there of the clamshell design that display a small envelope or other symbol on the external display?

Like most of you, I do a lot of reading online, but notice that some websites default the font size to a teeny, weeny size. I'd like to read these sites at a larger font size, but when I change the default in FF, from say 16 to 18, some pages don't display optimally (text is cut off by images, I need to scroll right to read, etc.)
I believe GreaseMonkey can fix this so that the pages will read better at a larger size, but that's just a guess and I'm not sure how to use it. Any tutorials out there?
