There must be a tool for this: I want to copy text from a web page, then paste into in a word processing document, with the URL of the original page somehow appended to the text--say, in parenthesis at the end. Any suggestions?

I'm on a mac. A colleague sent me an Excel file (.xls) which I looked at in Excel 2011. It looks fine. I would like to save the file in some sort of text format, so that I can open Terminal and look at it in less. I realize that the columns won't align nicely, that's fine. What I don't want are all the weird characters that show up (from differently formatted line endings, etc). I've tried saving as "Tab delimited text," but that has the problem with the line endings. Which format should I use?

My wife and I text each other a lot throughout the day - enough that I go over my one zillion text per month limit. An upgrade to the next level (unlimited) would be $30/month. I need someone to text me every 4-6 hours to keep myself accountable for one very specific, discrete thing. I don't want to ask any of my friends/family to do it. Reminders on my phone are too easy to brush off and ignore. Is there some sort of web service I can sign up for that will hook me up with someone who also needs to be kept accountable, or someone who wants to help?

I just bought an LG Cosmos 2 VN251 phone, and I want to figure out how to export my texts, call history, etc. off the phone and onto my iMac. I was able to do this with my previous phone, an LG-VX9900, via the bluetooth connection using BitPim—but BitPim doesn't seem to recognize this model, and my text inbox is getting full pretty quickly! I have to read a lot of academic papers. They are usually formatted into 2 columns per page. This is fine if I print them out, but when I read them on a computer screen, it is difficult/annoying for me to scroll up and down - I lose my place easily (I recognize this may be unusual). Is there software out there that will strip the text from a pdf into one column (and maybe put all the figures at the end or somewhere)? Like the Readability extension for text on the web, but for pdfs. Maybe a plugin for Adobe Acrobat? Linux or Windows, please. Thanks.

The company I work for has offered to pay the cost to upgrade my personal iPhone 3gs to a 4s. I currently have unlimited data with the 200 SMS for $5 plan. I'm grandfathered in on the unlimited data plan but I've heard conflicting reports about the $5 message plan: a) to upgrade my phone I would have to either switch to a $20/month unlimited text message plan or go plan-less and pay $.20-.30/text, OR b) my $5 plan is safe and will survive the upgrade. So, which is it? [more inside]

I have some questions regarding MMS charges and the Facebook Messenger app. Between it and the upcoming iOS messages in iOS5 I would like to completely eliminate my texting plan (in light of AT&T's total dick move of eliminating the $10/month text plan-which I was going to move to after iOS5). I figure between Facebook and my iphone-owning friends, family, and girlfriend I should be 99.9% covered and I'll eat the per-text charge on the 2-3 a month that may slip by. I just cant seem to find a clear answer on one point, though: [more inside]
