Before building my own... does this software exist? I need to search a collection of PDF & Word files for key phrases, and dump the surrounding lines (x-m to x+n characters/lines, where x is the found phrase) into text files.
I occasionally need to search a few dozen files for a few dozen data items, which usually have some identifying text nearby. This needs to be automated.
Big bonus if it implements OCR, but that's not essential. Freeware, or cheapware, obviously is best. Windows-based is preferable, but I can do Linux.

In Word 2010, when I hit Shift-End, it selects the whole line I'm on. I thought it was supposed to select from the cursor's present location to
the end of the line, not the whole line itself. Anyway for me to get the desired behavior?

Possibly a waste of a question but can you recover lost text in Word before it saved? [more inside]

Can I strip SOME formatting from text? I'd like to be able to strip all formatting except
HTML links. Even better I'd like to strip all formatting other than HTML, bold and italics. Are there any good workarounds for this? [more inside]

I am in a new environment where the computers are locked down and are well-configured to use WordPerfect X3 rather than MS Word.
The one feature I badly miss, and haven't been able to locate anywhere, is the equivalent of of the MS Word "wrap to window" option, which will flow text to the width of your word processing window rather than always displaying it at the width of the printed page. This feature makes multiple-window desktop arrangements feasible.
Despite web searching and kicking the tires in WordPerfect X3, I haven't been able to locate this feature. Is it hidden somewhere? Or does it not exist?

When I print from Word 2004 (Mac), the character spacing is slightly off, but definitely noticeable. Random letters in random words will be closer or further apart than other letters. This happens when I print to a PDF or physically print a document, but not in the regular Word display. What's going on? [more inside]

How do I make the outside text flow around a text box in Microsoft Word? Right now the text box is sitting on top of the text it's supposed to accompany. I know this is a waste of a question, but I'm in a rush and need to do this today.
