I will be arriving around 5 PM, might take me until 6 PM to get to the hotel on Sunday. It's a business related trip, but since I'll be working normal office hours, I can work around it and still try to have some kind of fun. I've never been to Dallas. What can you suggest to me that might be fun? [more inside]

Looking for advice on finding a suitable therapist for some issues I'm having and just for a long term self improvement. I have been putting it off, but finally am at a space where I'm ready to find a good long term therapist. About a year ago I met with a therapist a few times but we didn't "click" plus I couldn't afford it at the time.

My company has offered me a weekend at a B&B in the Texas Hill Country in thanks for 10 years of service. Looking on the web there appear to be thousands of them, with wildly scattered reviews depending on which review site one chooses. Having had mixed experiences with B&B's, I thought I'd turn to the green for suggestions. If you've been to one in that area that you would recommend (or steer us away from), please write below.

I will be in Hammond, Louisiana this October and wanted to make a road trip back to my home in Vancouver Canada. The current plan is to buy a vehicle in Hammond or New Orleans, then drive through Texas and up the coast. I am an artist, so visiting sites like Marfa to see the Chianti Foundation
and visiting LA to see the MOCA
and the Hammer
are priorities. I am asking for advice on art sites and routes with the most interesting or essential things to see. I've visited a few places in the US but this is a big trip for me I may not be able to make again so I'd like to make the most of it. If you are American, assume I know nothing. The obvious for you may not be that obvious to a Canadian. Thanks!

My camping experience jumps directly from "getting drunk overnight at a campsite with bathroom facilities nearby" to "totally cut off from all society and pooping in a hole." What is the fecal protocol at a primitive (designated but usually more remote and no facilities) campsite in a Texas state park?

I have, on the second floor of my home in Texas, a screened-in porch with chairs, a massage table, and a sauna. Every few months, everything is coated in a fine yellow mist, and (ignoring what havoc it wrecks with my sinuses) the whole place is a two-hour pain to clean.
Hive Mind: Suggestions for keeping the pollen out? Alternatively, suggestions for cleaning that are more effective (I always end up with some on the roof of the sauna, some in the structural whatsits in the roof, all over the floor, chairs, table, etc) than going through with a 36 pack of bar rags and crazily-diluted bleach?

My home's Smart Meter is located directly across from my kitchen sink, on the exterior side of the wall they share. I probably spend about 40 minutes each day standing within 2 feet of the meter, doing dishes and washing produce, etc. My stove is only about 4 feet from the meter, and I love to cook so I spend a considerable amount of time there as well. I am hoping to become pregnant soon. Is this exposure to radiation something I should be at all concerned about? [more inside]

I'm going to Houston for a weekend next month, and will be wanting some good Texas barbecue. When I used to live there, I liked Pappas and Goode Company, but the last time I ate at either of those (about five years ago) I was disappointed. Where are the best places these days for true Texas barbecue in Houston? If they don't have their own smoker, or if the word "pulled" appears anywhere on the menu, I'm not interested.

Where can retired Alaska snowbirds find a rental along the Texas gulf coast? By that I do not mean where are the nice beaches, as I know the answers to that question. I need to know HOW to find a rental by the month that includes linens, a furnished kitchen, cable, and internet. VRBO, Craigslist, airbnb, and other sources have failed. Everything I find is daily/weekly and incredibly expensive. I hope to travel from mid Jan thru mid Feb and $900 to $1100 per month seams reasonable to me. The specific location is not as important as price, and a beach view.

My partner and I are headed to San Antonio at the end of July so that he can go to a conference and I can visit Texas for the first time. We like cities, and nature, and are especially interested in how people organize and live together in whatever communities they've got (ie. social & political history and sociology). Other happy holiday finds have included biking Montreal's The Main and La Chine Canal, the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago and taking 3 kinds of trains to get to a hilltop overlooking Vienna. What are some of your favorite things to do in Port Aransas, TX? Some friends and I have a house-share over 4th of July weekend and we were wondering what all there is to do there, good places to eat, stuff to see. Most of us have never been there (imagine that, most of us being Texans). We will all be traveling from Austin. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

I've used AskMeFi for travel advice before and it's been invaluable. This time I'm planning a road trip from Gainesville, FL to Austin, TX around Halloween to coincide with a music festival I attend each year.
I've been to the United States (NYC, San Francisco, and the Pacific Northwest) many times but never to the south – with the exception of Florida if that counts. Do you have any suggestions, places to definitely see, places to definitely avoid? More below if useful... [more inside]

Best luxury hotels in Fort Worth, Texas? The title says it all - I'm looking for someplace amazing to stay for one or two nights in Fort Worth, TX. My gentleman is looking forward to a concert that's happening there and I'd like to surprise him with a killer package at a luxury hotel the weekend of the show. Bonus points if the hotel is funky and non-chain (a la Hotel San Jose
or Hotel Saint Cecilia
in Austin), although I'd do a chain if it was absolutely top-notch. [more inside]

Moving to Boerne/San Antonio next week. Looking for two things: cool places/shops/places to visit; and web sites.
I want to know about the one cemetery that has the coolest old statues, the park that offers the best secret hideouts, the store that has the weirdest hand made tchotchkes. Two particular items of interest: fabric stores (NOT Joann's - I want the cool, local place); and a place to get very nice wood for woodworking, since the hubby likes to make stuff, including guitars. Music stores would also be welcome. I'm an interior designer, and would love an introduction to the "to the trade" stores/warehouses in the area, too.
Web sites that will help me get to know the area. Especially as I'm a stay at home mom, and I'd love to meet other parents and find cool places to take my kids. These could be business web sites, organizations, blogs, you name it.
For the record, I'm not religious at all and I lean very liberal, so super conservative stuff is definitely not what I'm after.

squawking in my backyard in north central Texas. Obviously the video quality is not great, but can anybody help me identify it based on its call? Mississippi Kite? Hawk? And do they eat kitties?
For perspective, its on top of a 30ft bald cypress tree. It appears to be at least 18-24 inches from head to tail.

We are being offered a mortgage at 3.6%. The cost of the house would represent about 50% of our net worth. The other 50% is fairly liquid, with an even spread between 401k, index funds, 529's, and cash. Should we do it? [more inside]
