Some years ago a psychologist conned me into taking an IQ test. If that weren't bad enough, my test subscores ended up being, for the most part, horrible—nearly bad enough to put me into a percentile in which the 'intellectually impaired' are a part of. Though deep down inside I'm not convinced I'm the dolt I am on paper, these results have really fucked with my head and have made me spend much time questioning my intelligence. Really, all these results have done for me is lower my confidence and cause me a great deal of depression and anxiety that sometimes gets so out of hand that it leaves me feeling suicidal. And this I very well knew could happen. And I knew that receiving less-than-stellar results was highly possible due at least in part to my anxious nature which makes it hard for me to focus when around others. And I knew this would ruin me; and ruin me it has. Now the question is: can the damage be undone? [more inside]
Posting for a friend. Had 1 marijauna brownie exactly 6 days ago and prior to that had been over a month. A saliva test was sprung on her at work. What are the odds she passed?
I am teaching an intro class on engineering design. I've decided to offer an optional extra credit assignment so that students that have missed homeworks can make up some of their homework grade with a bit of extra effort. As part of their regular assignments, they've built a widget. I'd like them to test their widget under similar conditions 4-5 times and report data to me. What are some good ways I can make outright cheating on the assignment a bit harder? [more inside]
My contract with AT&T just ended. I've pre-ordered an unlocked iPhone 6s from Apple. I want to try T-Mobile, but keep my AT&T account meanwhile (it's unlimited data). T-Mobile's "Test Drive" program is backordered 6 weeks, so what's the cheapest way to get a T-Mobile SIM to test their voice and data coverage? Pre-paid? Pay-as-you-go? I understand I won't have use of my usual phone number while testing with their SIM.
Where can I find those cheap dollar store pregnancy tests in NYC *right now*? This shouldn't be that hard, but all the cheap-o dollar stores in my neighborhood don't seem to carry them anymore. Do you know of a store in Brooklyn (preferably off the B/Q) or in Manhattan (south of 34th St, also preferably off the B/Q) that carries those super cheap at-home pregnancy tests? [more inside]
I need to temporarily (20 minutes to a week) attach a test lead to a gold pad on one side of a printed circuit board. The gold pad is about 10 mm in diameter and the center is about 12 mm from the edge of the board. There are surface mount components on the other side of the board, so an alligator clip would be sub-optimal. The input signal is a few millivolts. [more inside]
I'm finally getting off of my ass and getting my driver's license after 20+ years of not needing or having one. Some friends have recommended Young Drivers as the best way to get the training necessary to pass the test (and learn how to drive) but it's pretty expensive ($1000+ the last time I checked). Does anyone have any other suggestions for someone like me who knows mostly nothing about driving? [more inside]
Hello, I'll pass the paper-based TOEFL in a few months and I'm almost fluent in English so my main objective is to get a perfect or near-perfect score. I have learned English through immersion so I think that my main weakness is grammar mistake identification. Can you recommend me a book or some other resource to help me prepare for the test? Would the books aiming at preparing the internet-based be appropriate for the paper-based test? Thank you!
I have a little over a month before I take the Adobe Certification Exam for Photoshop. I bought a study course that supposedly has a 1:1 correlation with the exam, and I am really struggling with the magnitude of the keyboard commands I have to memorize. If you've taken and passed this specific test, do you have any tips for me? [more inside]

For my son’s high school history class, he has been assigned an in-class argument/opinion essay. The teacher ended most of the lecturing this week and has given them time to prepare thesis statements for the essays. Here is where it starts to get complicated (at least to my son and me): [more inside]
I need to take the GREs and I am very poor. I have been told by other people who took the gre that the test prep class is necessary, and it is prohibitive even with the grants and payment plan they offer. The class seems to offer a bunch of books and tests, plus an app. Buying the book also seems really expensive, but less than the class. I have also been told that the books are enough? I want to do my best, as I have a number of disabilities that make test taking very difficult.

Open to any and all recommendations on the most efficient way to study for the GRE (focusing on writing and grammar). My GPA in college was meh (3.0). So I really need to have a nice shiny test score to go along with my floating-by transcript in order to get into top choice schools. Any advice on courses, sites, studying regimens etc. to go into this thing as ready as possible? [more inside]

I am currently scheduled to take an application test a week from tomorrow. This test is for an entry-level county government job. I REALLY want this job, but I haven't taken a test that meant anything in almost 15 years. I need help knocking off the rust! [more inside]
I (late 20s male) slept with a girl I don't know very well over the weekend. (Used protection, nothing broke or leaked...all very safe.) We talked after, and she said that the last time she was tested she was clean, but that was a while (and a couple of partners) ago. I have no reason to suspect I've acquired anything new, but I'd still like to do my due diligence and make sure I'm clean. My last test was about a year and a half after the last time I'd had sex, but I don't intend on waiting nearly that long. I know HIV takes about six months to show up, but as far as other common STIs go, how long should I wait for anything else to show up?
I taught myself how to build a wordpress website for our small business a few years ago and since our current platform (Platform Pro) is now defunct, I need to switch to a different platform and get all my plugins and wordpress up-do-date. What is the smartest way to do this? [more inside]
I'm taking a numerical methods class and there are all these discretization schemes of partial differential equations named after pairs of dudes and they all are kinda the same, maybe a bit different in indexes.... I'm trying to organize it all in my head, like a frat house, with the dudes that worked on the same scheme being roommates, but it seems to be taking a long time to actually "find" a place for each scheme in their "rooms" and keeping it there in a sort of visual arrangement. Test is no books no notes, and everything kinda of just jumbles inside my head right now.
I failed my road test 3 times. My driving instructors said I'm ready and I have years of experience but the day of the test I choke and freak out. [more inside]
My girlfriend is applying for to work for the city as a crime lab trainee, a position they will train her for, but will be tested for basic knowledge (they are looking for someone with a two-year degree, apparently in anything). The test will include math. What do you think she will need to be sure she's solid on? [more inside]
I'm looking to get work as a library shelver in a county library. I've passed the minimum requirements and have moved onto the next phase- basically- the library shelver test. I have no idea what this test will require other than them handing me a stack of books and telling me to go shelve them properly. Besides being versed in the Dewey Decimal System.... what do I need to know to pass this test and not have anxiety about it going in? I realize every library system is different but I would very much like your input. [more inside]
I've been invited to interview for a software development internship at a company I would really like to work for. However, after I'd said yes, I received the detailed outline of the interview, including a test partly in a language I have yet to learn. How can I best prepare in a short amount of time? in my previous job i worked with an emerson data acquisition and control system that was completely integrated and customisable. all facility control and data gathering was from the same software, with a customised faceplate gui. i am now at a new job that is using stand alone data takers with 30m long cables to get data. it is unstable and prone to interference and limited amount of data channels, plus no discrete outputs. is there an ideal mid strength solution, that wouldn't cost the same as the emerson system, but would be more robust and effective than a datataker?

I've been submitting hair samples myself with the Hairconfirm test. I understand the hair test, confirms usage within a 90 day period. On day 72, I submitted samples, and tested positive with a .53 pg/mg for THC Metabolite. On day 92, I submitted samples, and tested positive with a .45 pg/mg for THC Metabolite. On day 108, I submitted samples, and STILL tested positive with a .42 pg/mg for THC Metabolite. Why is the rate of reduction of THC Metabolites in my hair not reducing faster? [more inside]
Where I work, no one has a PHR/SPHR. I don't know enough HR professionals (or, more importantly, non-HR types who hire HR professionals) to determine whether it makes sense to pay this kind of money to get the PHR/SPHR certification, in general. Advice is welcome from anyone who has either data or anecdotes. [more inside]
I'm working on a problem for "Inferences about the difference between two population means for independent samples: sigma 1 & 2 unknown and unequal." The final value of "test statistic t" falls in the rejection region for 95% confidence interval, but falls in the nonrejection region for 99% confidence interval. Should I perform additional calculations before rejecting my null hypothesis?
Can I get a prescription from my doctor for a urine drug test? I quit smoking marijuana ~25 days ago. Before quitting I smoked once or twice everyday. I ordered some dipstick drug test off the internet and started testing my urine after 5 days of not smoking. About 7 days ago the tests started coming up negative. I'd like to get this confirmed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Can I ask my primary care physician for a prescription for one? If I do, will he get the results and report them to my insurance company? [more inside]
What's the best way to have a document turned into a fill-in-the-blanks quiz? In other words, I'm looking for a program that will remove key words from a document for the purpose of memorization. Ideally, it would avoid filler words like "and," "of," or "for," etc.
I have an upcoming job interview for a fairly sales-oriented position in business. Putting aside that I'm not sure I want the position yet and that in my eyes it counts against the company that they put stock in this sort of thing, the company is about to send me a personality test which they use as a strong hiring indicator. I would prefer to ace the test, whatever that means, and have my actual interview and position discussion determine hiring. How should I go about answering a test that I don't believe will be reflective of my personality? [more inside]

I am asking on behalf of a friend. She is looking for a GMAT tutor in SF, ideally who has access to a large library of computer exams in order to practice that format (my friend has struggled with the nature of the exam...she really wishes she could directly mark up the questions!). She has done well on standardized testing in the past (ie the SATs) and currently is an SAT math tutor so she definitely has a good foundation, but she needs someone who can help her with her verbal side (this is where she really struggles with the all-computer format), as well as pacing in general. She really appreciates your recommendations, thank you. She is willing to pay for quality. Word of mouth is so much better than Google!
