I hurt my arm while playing tennis back in October. Saw a doctor in April, May. I'm still in pain. I don't know where to go from here. Recommendations? Location: Mid East Coast VA. [more inside]
My Search-Fu is utterly failing me. Where did I read the line (paraphrased): "He was like a tennis player who mistakes his best game for his everyday game [or natural level or basic capability]". I want to say it was in a novel by a female author,: Lessing, Christie or Woolf maybe? I might be completely wrong. Fairly sure the narrator's voice was female. Can anyone help?
I am considering purchasing a river-front house that is on a few acres in Cottage Country, Ontario. One of those acres is taken up by a Tennis Court (okay, it is probably not a whole acre by itself but it is really, really big). The court has floodlights, is fenced about twenty feet high on three sides (surrounded by a mature forest on those sides so I assume it was to keep the balls in) and appears to be in good condition - still used by the current owner, actually. Buuuut, *I* will never play tennis and I know my yoga-loving but anti-sport school-age children would never use it either. However, I don't want to rip it up and then find out a few years from now I could have re-used the space/materials in a useful way. Some vague ideas we have thrown around: set up a trampoline (no need to mow under it), erect an above-ground pool, have local punk bands play on it to an audience on the hillside overlooking the court, build a yurt for yoga, put bunkies on it for visitors (the property is large, the house is small)...is there anything obvious I am missing?
Another question from the "things my 9-year-old asked me and Google can't find" file: what would happen if you tried to hit a major league fastball with a tennis racket? Would the ball rip through the strings? Or would you actually be able to hit the ball back with distance? Would you hurt yourself?
I recently tried to add the tennis channel onto my time warner starter TV package, but was told I had to pay for another package first full of channels I don't want. Would like to know if there are other ways to watch these games daily maybe online or something. [more inside]

I'm looking to play tennis casually and recreationally in the Queens/Brooklyn/Manhattan area. But the costs and inconveniences are real deterrents. If I understand, I need to pay the annual membership, THEN a per-diem fee, and all of that AFTER finding a court that has availability. Is there a better way? (My friends in the suburbs drive to a local park, walk over to a free court and... play.)
I started playing tennis awhile back and have been having problems with skin tearing off the inside balls of both feet. I've tried a bunch of different things to stop this from happening without success....any ideas? [more inside]
I have 4 courtside tickets to the finals (Sunday) at BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, near Palm Springs. The tickets have not sold on Stubhub or its competitors despite competitive pricing. What are my options to sell, as we get closer to the event date? I will be on location. I've listed on Palm Springs Craigslist, but how else can I make sure I sell them at a fair price without a big hassle? [more inside]
For a High School youth Group i help moderate, we are creating an American Gladiator style event. One of the games we are going to do is the favorite/famed Assault. If anyone can help me brainstorm the following questions: What should I use for launching Tennis Balls, a Sling shot, or something else? It needs to be fairly quick. Any cheaper alternatives to Tennis balls, need to launch something in a gym (it has a stage to shoot from)? I think i can get some tennis balls on craigslist, but open to any alternative. Tennis Filter: I've recently returned to playing tennis after a multi-decade break. I played high-school and college tennis in my day but stopped for any number of reasons. I have a good rally partner and I've surprisingly been able to get back to a reasonable level after only five weeks. The only niggling issue is some pain in my service shoulder that feels like a rotor cuff problem. It goes away after 10-15 minutes of softer serves. I've found that throwing a ball overhand generates the same twinge but also loosens things up so that the serving motion is more comfortable. [more inside]

Do you know where online I can watch the French Open with English commentary? I've been watching it (or rather listening to it) on ESPN3, but there is absolutely no commentary. As I'm watching it in snatches at work, it's kind of nice to have the commenters natter on a bit, so I can catch up on what I've missed. I do not just want recap sports shows, but rather the actual matches (preferably as live as ESPN3, but recorded for the next day would be interesting as well). Thanks.

These are private neighborhood hard courts which we members maintain. Looking for a compound that will neither shrink nor expand under the heat of summer ( at least minimally).
