I'm considering purchasing a house. It's a fantastic midcentury home, it's got the perfect square footage, a pool, a really cool atrium entryway, and it's structurally sound. It's also being used as a group home by about seven elderly people and one mentally disabled younger man. They seem very nice. One of the elderly men is living in the garage. It's not a converted garage, just a regular two-car garage with exposed structure and wiring, etc. The house is clearly not being maintained well, and frankly, it's pretty depressing to see.

I rent a house in West Virginia. There are many, many problems with the house and property, and it's been like pulling teeth to get the landlady to address even the most serious problems. I'm sick of living in a shithole, and I'm done being Mr. Nice Guy. Which of these specific problems does my landlady have a clear legal obligation to fix? And short of hiring a lawyer, what are my options for using those laws to motivate my landlady? YANML.

Security deposit, cleaning fees, and ignorant renters, oh my. My husband and I are getting ready to move out of our first apartment, and since we don't have prior experience with the move-out cleaning and security deposit experience, we're a little lost.

My friend, renting a room in a house, has found that the people he was renting from didn't actually own the house. He came home to find an eviction notice on his door and the locks changed. The fake landlords have moved all of their stuff out, changed their phone number, and are gone without a trace. Now my friend can't get to his stuff.
