"I realize that I seem fine, doctor, but..."

I've been extremely irritable and short-tempered lately. I think it's time to do something about this. The trouble is, I'm very, very good at "superficial professional interactions" (it's like a reflex I can't stop), and I'm afraid my doctor is just going to pat me on the head and shoo me off home. What can I do to make sure I'm taken seriously? [more inside]

How to start difficult relationship conversations

I need to talk to my boyfriend about some issues in our relationship, but I'm notoriously bad at confrontation and I never know how to start the conversation. It doesn't help that from my perspective it feels like I have a bunch of complaints without solutions (other than "stop doing that"). I want the conversation to be fair and effective. [more inside]

I'm easy to goad. Help me not be.

I get upset, flustered, angry, defensive, and eventually out-of-control when I get goaded. It can start as easy, fun banter or be a pointed insult. Either way, I lose my composure and temper fairly easily when I perceive I'm being provoked. [more inside]

How can I best interact with this guy?

I have a teammate at work and I need to know how to make our working relationship more effective. He has trouble with social interaction and exhibits behaviors that I've often heard in discussions about Asperger/autism spectrum disorders, but more to the point, he has trouble with anger and I'm not sure how to respond to it. I understand that I can't be sure about my armchair diagnosis, but I don't need to know the cause of his behavior so long as I can find ways to work with him. [more inside]

Is there a pill for this?

I seem to have the patience, judgment and self-control of a two-year-old. Nothing against two-year-olds, I'm sure many of them are lovely people, but little is expected of them beyond not biting people. I've mastered the not-biting part, it's the rest I have a problem with. [more inside]

How can I learn to not be so reactive?

In a professional situation someone tried to bully a number of people, including me. I lost my temper, not badly, but I got angry and said silly things. (well true things said in a silly way, all now apologised for) The disappointing thing is, my outburst was counter productive and unnecessary. I was right, so right, and if I had stayed cool, and responded calmly I would have been able to completely control the situation. [more inside]
