I'm jonesing for some old-school BBS action. Are there any worthwhile boards still around, with telnet access? I'd even settle for a social/builder MUD with good signal-to-noise ratio.

Desperate to telnet: I'm at a crappy pay as you go computer in a hotel in Germany. It's a Windows machine, and the native telnet client is disabled. I downloaded putty, but can't install it or run it. I don't have a flash drive on which to download putty and even if I did, there's no available USB port. I vaguely recall an acquaintance posting about a website from which one could establish a telnet connection (via a Java applet?). I'm a bit of a technotard, but can follow instructions. HELP. I've been out of touch with my friends for two weeks, and am desperate to check in with them. Thanks!

I'm looking for a JAVA package/class library that would allow me to connect, send and receive data via the telnet and SSH protocol. I would love for the package/library to handle the connecting, handshaking, authentication, etc. I would like the the protocol to be transparent to me, meaning that the way I send data and receive wouldn't change my code if it was SSH or telnet. Any version of the JAVA is fine. I'm trying to develop a different kind of telnet/ssh client and would rather not rewrite code if there is something already out there. I could even get started with just telnet. Thank you for your time and help. Have a great one.

Any way to gain access to a win XP box through a forced remote desktop (or another method?). Or even a network install (though that'd be hard, I don't dare lose anything on the HDD) of Linux? Oh, and I don't have a monitor (that's the root of the problem) [more inside]

I'm behind a university proxy firewall and wanting to access ports that are blocked from direct access through the firewall. I was wondering if there are any telnet clients out there that have HTTP-proxy capabilities with authication (user/password) as well.
