If I buy the nonamebrand TV it's going to explode!?

My current bedroom TV has decided it prefers to only do sound now. Not a big deal-it is old and was a hand-me-down. But, holymajoly, this TV buying thing is WAY more complicated than "I need a TV. OK, that one." [more inside]

Need help remembering an actor's name

Does anyone remember the name of that TV and Movie character actor from 60s comedies who played fussy types and his catchphrase was "We-eeell!"? (I don't know how to spell it phonetically.) It was useless trying to Google this as I can't remember which movies or shows he was in, though it seemed like a lot. Thanks!

Any new TV/movies for Whedonites in withdrawal?

Any fairly new TV or movie recommendations for some Whedon fans in withdrawal? We've just finished Dollhouse on Netflix, and are feeling a loss for kick-ass female characters and really good and witty (if occasionally cheesy) dialogue. I recognize this question has been asked before, hence my request for fairly new recommendations. (Older shows are fine, but I don't want to waste anyone's time.) [more inside]

A series of series and serialized sub-serials. Seriously, basically help me make some mini-series - there will be spoilers.

*Spoiler Alert*Never Read This Thread (but none within the question itself): I am hoping to create a set of custom original miniature series "arcs", highlighting various things; characters/topics/ story-arcs/plot-arcs... any sort of "shortening of a longer series" that you love, or like or know. Where can I get Hong Kong TV series?

My parents love watching Hong Kong TV dramas. Netflix has a limited number and my parents have nearly watched them all. According to the Internet, I have the option of signing up with Cinflix or Tiger Cinema to rent Hong Kong TV series. Anyone here have any personal experience, good or bad, with either site? Are there any other sites I should consider? What were shipping times like? I'm in the Chicago area.

Trashy TV for you and me

Please recommend to me some terrifically trashy guilty pleasure TV shows -- but not reality shows! -- that I can watch over the next few months. The shows can be currently airing on TV (preferred), online on a legit streaming website (Hulu, etc.), or on Netflix Instant Streaming. I'm thinking something along the lines of "Gossip Girl" or the new 90210 series or "Pretty Little Liars", none of which I have ever seen. What else is out there right now that's good -- which is to say, entertainingly bad -- that I can get into quickly? [more inside]

possible to fix tv speakers buzz?

My boyfriend has a Phillips 32" in flat LCD HDTV, that appears to be from 2006 or 2007. The screen seems to still be in great shape, but the speakers have developed an annoying buzz. Is it likely that the speakers could be fixed at a reasonable cost, or do we need to junk the tv completely and just get a new one?

LED LCD HDTV?

LED LCD HDTV? I'm looking to finally replace my 1998-vintage CRT with a Samsung 40" LED LCD @120 Hz (model #UN40C6300SF). It's on sale at Best Buy and the reviews have been very positive with a few complaints of bad panels and visible corner "flashlighting" in a dark room. Anyone have experience with LED TVs? I like their sexy slimness, but are they built to last? Should I wait another year for a comparably-priced 3D version?
