I want to watch Swedish television via the web, but much of the content is blocked geographically and available within Sweden only. I prefer free, but I'm willing to pay a nominal monthly/yearly amount. I did locate this
company during my Google search - I don't know if this service is overkill for my needs.
Is it safe to use a foreign proxy and would it be wise to install the proxy on a separate router? I have no idea how any of this works.

I came into some hardware I have no other use for, so it's time to try some "media center" software! Yay! Difficulties: Spouse-friendliness is important, I don't know the media center scene very well, the hardware I have isn't all that fancy, and my patience for scouring all the different projects' forums to sort them out is somewhat limited. Can you help me sort out my options and pick something that's close to my requirements?

I need a reasonable quality video stream captured from recent US network television, with the commercials still in it. Oh, and no subtitles. And, actually, maybe more than one, if that's possible. The usual pirates, you see, conveniently strip the commercials.

Can one use RCA cables (red/white/yellow) in component jacks (red/blue/green)? I understand that the jacks carry much different data/signal/whatever, but I was told that there is no need to buy (very) pricey component cables...you can actually just hook up good quality red/white/yellow RCA cables to the component jacks for the same purpose.

What are the options, if any, for live video of the Winter Olympics online in the US? Having been able to watch CBC in 2002, I was spoiled, but this year it's back to NBC only. Worse, with the games in Europe this year, they will be showing everything that matters spliced into bite-size melodramatic bits, in between interminable ads and features, six hours after it actually happens. So, any options, licit or illicit?

I have an old Intel Celeron 501MHz PC sitting around collecting dust. I'm wondering whether it would be suitable as a video server for my television, assuming I upgrade it with WiFi and a TV card. I don't have/want cable, so I don't necessarily need TiVo-like capabilities, but it would be nice to have something that could access my WiFi network, grab my downloads (mostly fansubbed anime, foriegn shows, etc.), and play them on the home theatre system. Is it worthwhile to use such a system for this purpose? Is there a more elegant solution that I'm overlooking that doesn't involve burning a ton of DVDs?

My girlfriend is obsessed with the
Cillit Bang advertisement remix. Back in the 80's (or early 90's), there was a similar "remix" video of 50's black and white advertisements set to a beat-box soundtrack, with "lyrics" consisting of samples the sales pitches of those ads. Can anyone ID this?

Over the past several years, I have been burned by poor quality in home electronics from various manufacturers. I have purchased pieces by Sony (home stereo), Panasonic (theatre-in-a-box) and RCA (various pieces of junk), and all have given out in one way or another far too quickly for my liking. In a renewed attempt to build a proper home theatre system (DVD/CD, receiver, speakers, etc), and recognizing that I haven't the money for really high-end stuff but will avoid anything cheap, I seek outside opinions as to which manufacturers are making products that are of reasonable quality, and reasonably priced. Your experiences, please.

I want to watch TV on my laptop via wifi. Does anyone know how I can do this? For example, Toshiba's new Qosmio laptops come with a 'Wifi TV Router'. Does anyone else make a WiFi TV router? Or, alternatively, I have another computer with a TV card in it. What software could I install to stream the live TV signal from my server? I know there are streaming video products, but I don't know if any of them can also handle changing channels on a live TV stream. Any helpful suggestions appreciated. Thanks!
