Any suggestions for a high powered telescope that is t-ring compatible (for DSLR) AND is tough and light enough for backpacking and camping?

I am going crazy trying to get a sighting of Comet Lulin, and I don't want to blow the best chance tonight! I live east of Rockville, MD, and there is a fair amount of light pollution in the area. I just got a 6" Dobsonian Telescope (Orion XT6), but know very little about finding my way around the sky. [more inside]

I'm about to buy a small Meade telescope used. It has that gee whiz motoring/pointing/slewing technology. What kinds of things should/can I test in a couple minutes just to verify that it's mostly working? [more inside]

My sister has a cottage on the coast, and wants to buy her husband a telescope that he can use to look at ships out at sea during the day, but also to observe stars and planets at night. Does such a thing as an entry-level hybrid telescope exist, and if so what's a good one, available in the UK or Europe?

I want to buy my son, who is turning six, a telescope for his birthday. I don't want to spend a fortune, but one site I looked at for advice said anything less than $300 is a piece of junk. Anyone have any advice (including specific models) on one I can by this budding astronomer for $100 or less?

I am interested in buying a telescope for someone who moved into a condo that has a great view of the Chicago skyline as well as an ocassional awesome view of the moon. The telescope would be used mainly for looking at other buildings as well as for viewing the surface of the moon when it is full and close. The thing is, I know absolutely nothing about telescopes. I've done some research via google and am at a loss. I also called a hobby shop but the sales person was extremely unhelpful. Could someone knowledgable about telescopes give me some advice about brand, kind, size etc.? [more inside]
