What can a phone scammer do with your home address and kid's date of birth? I've heard that phone scams are getting "better" in terms of sounding very professional and being able to spoof caller ID, so I'm paranoid that I just told some scammer too much. [more inside]
Verizon is calling me from three or four similar numbers all starting with 213-223-87XX. They do not leave messages. I found out it was Verizon by calling these numbers on a blocked phone at work. How to stop this? More info inside.... [more inside]
During the past three and a half hours, I've received ten telemarketer calls on my cell phone. They seem to be from the same company using different numbers and area codes (I stopped answering and they don't always leave a message, so I can't be sure). What can I do, and what did I do? The county I live in would like to survey residents regarding their preferences on specific issues. I am familiar with survey monkey type internet surveys which we will likely utilize. However many residents do not have access to internet. So we would like to make the survey available in another way like calling an 800 number, answering questions with the phone's keypad. I have searched but cannot find this kind of product. Any ideas or other alternatives are hugely appreciated!
A "free apartment locator service" won't stop calling my cell phone. Legal (U.S.) and logistical questions inside. [more inside]
My mobile phone is suddenly getting lots (more than 30 in the last 18 hours) of phone calls from "unknown" numbers and numbers with strange area codes. No voicemails are left. In many cases, the leading three digits don't appear to be area codes used in North America (examples include 375, 736, and 486), so these could be calls from outside the U.S. and Canda. What's going on? What should I do? [more inside]

Someone just called me asking if they could deliver free copies of The National Post for a month's trial period. Apparently I am under no obligation to renew or pay for a subscription, and they gave me a phone number and ID of the telemarketer who called me if I want to cancel. Issues of politics and/or newspaper quality aside, would I be getting myself into any trouble if I said yes to this supposedly strings-free offer?
My cell phone has been exploding with calls from Indian pharmacy telemarketers in the past couple days -- as in, upwards of 20 calls a day. The numbers are all either "Unavailable" or "000-000-0000." I've asked a few of them to take me off their lists but, as expected, that was totally ineffectual. Do I have any recourse but to change my number if this keeps up?

813-840-3045. Who owns this number and how can I get them to stop calling me and hanging up. It happens 2-3 times a day and it's not just me they are bothering (see here and here). Calling the number just returns a rapid busy signal. [more inside]

Scam? I've been contacted and told I was selected to win a prize as a thank you for filling out a survey a few months ago. I have to go to a lunch and draw for which prize I'll receive out of 5. Presumably this is a scam, and I imagine it's a Time Share sales thing. So my question is this, if I go, and withstand the stupid timeshare marketing thing, will I actually get a prize? Or will I be scammed out of that, too? The company in question is 'The Vacation Store' and this is local to Toronto, since there are a lot of Vacation Stores out there on the net.
If I've started to receive recorded solicitation calls on my cell phone, whom do I call to report this to?
