Today my eight-year-old niece broke her two front teeth, both diagonally so that she has a triangle-shaped hole between her teeth. They are adult teeth. They are on their way to the dentist, but I just wanted to get some information from experiences you all may have had.

I have an older dog whose front tooth is loose enough that I can wiggle it with my fingers. I'm taking him into the vet tomorrow, but before I do, I'm wondering: is it possible for the vet to remove a dog's tooth without putting him under anesthesia?

My adult dog lost a tooth a couple weeks ago after chewing on a Nylabone. I took the bone away, and was planning to make an appointment for cleaning/ scaling in a month or so, when I could afford it. Today I found another tooth and now I'm more worried that this is something that can't wait. Help please!

I will be having a root canal soon, but the dentist has told me that the damage to the tooth may not be treatable by the root canal, and that other action may be necessary. He's given me a few options to consider, and has asked me to pick one.

Our 2-year old has an injured tooth that is wearing away. Dentist would like to go in, and do baby-tooth root canal, or possible extraction if the tooth cannot be saved. Hospital wants outrageous sums of money, health insurance says it will not cover it. Are there any good options?

I'm really fascinated by teeth and their various shapes, arrangements, etc. I remember reading something a few years back that discussed several basic dental patterns, but I can't find it, or any info remotely like it. It was a fluff piece in a fashion mag I think, but I'm more interested in reading something slightly more substantial or scientific. Does there exist a taxonomy, or a conventionalized way for describing common dental patterns? Google searching yields little, and frankly, I feel like a bit of a freak for having such a weird attraction to these cute little things and all their delightful quirks. Bonus question, am I alone on this?

My three year old just had his filling break off (or fall out) his front tooth a mere seven days after having a dental procedure. Needless to say, it looks AWFUL. Is there some dental technique I should ask my dentist about to get something that will provide a more permanent(ish) solution until his adult teeth come in? Lots more below.

ThinningToothEnamelFilter: So my latest trip to the dentist (three weeks ago) was a bit of a nightmare, in which I was told the enamel on my teeth is "very thin". Looking for advice on anything I can do to keep what's left, and (dubious) whether there's any way to get it back, as well as what I can expect from here on just generally. A few questions inside for those who have experienced the same thing, or others who genuinely know anything about the problem.

I noticed today that when I prod my top right-most molar with the tip of my tongue that it aches dully. I DO intend to make an appointment with a dentist, but don't have too much experience with tooth problems of any kind (I've had two cavities ever), so I wanted to get opinions on what this might be before I go.

My wife has a funny combo, if she blows her nose, then drinks cold water she gets major pain in one of her teeth (upper row, mid way back) She also gets a similar pain when descending in an airplane - doesn't happen every time but enough times to be nervous on descent. She describes the pain as though someone is ripping out her tooth. Anyone get this or know what it may be? Probably a trip to the dentist would uncover the secret, but I was looking for a mefi preview.

A fair-sized bit of one of my teeth just fell off. The tooth is a molar, third from the back on the bottom jaw. I'm not in pain, and this has never happened before; I have no fillings and my teeth are generally healthy. I can see an NHS dentist in two weeks' time at the earliest, but what (if anything) should I do about it in the meantime?

My girlfriend's crown came off one of her molars, and it was damaged. She went to a dentist who reshaped the stump, made a new crown and replaced it. Since then (3 weeks) it came off once, she's been in excruciating pain the whole time, and now the dentist says she might need a root canal. Is this bad dentistry, or to be expected, and is there any recourse?

Jogging or biking makes my back teeth ache (throbbing nerves!) when I first start exercising after maybe a month off (and also, I get violent itches deep in my leg muscle tissue.) Why? Yes, it goes away once I'm back in shape.

I'm having an issue with my tooth. The root canal I had on my broken tooth in 2005 was supposed to get crowned eventually, but that was $800 that I didn't have.
Anyway, the filling that was put in was temporary, and it's been wearing down over the last 2 years...

About 6 days ago I was brushing my teeth and I jammed the plastic edge of my toothbrush hard against my lower right-hand outside gum. There wasn't any blood, but in the days since, some sort of white blister has developed and is sensitive to the touch. It looks like a short (inch-long) line along my gum where the toothbrush hit. Any ideas how long this will take to go away, and if there's anything I can do to speed that up? Thanks!
