Upcoming interview for a technical Dream Job. Problem is, I've been working in a similar-ish industry, but don't have any professional experience directly related. How can I better emphasize my broad technical background, autodidact tendencies and passion for the industry to help assuage concerns the interviewer may have? [more inside]

When I start Gmail, it hangs, without fully loading. I input my name and password, and it attempts to load, but hangs before fully loading and showing my mailbox. My only alternative is then to load the HTML view. This is a very limited and unworkable mode. I've tried Google's standard fixes with no avail. Can anyone help? [more inside]

I'm a liberal arts major. I'm considering Law School or a Masters but according to US News & WR Even college grads might want to consider blue-collar careers . I live Near Wake Tech (a well respected Technical/Community College) and like the idea of a steady, secure 9-5ish type job. Salary is not critical, as long as I can live reasonably comfortably. So what are my best options? (See More Below) [more inside]

What does copywriting pay? A computer consulting firm wants to hire me to write founder bios, customer service email templates, redo the copy on their website, etc. Also maybe some light technical writing. As far as experience, I've done all that (unpaid) for a startup of my own, which was very successful. I'm also a very experienced popular writer (articles and books). But never did this sort of copywriting for pay. What's typical renumeration?

I've been out of work for a number of years, by choice, staying at home to raise my kids. I have a Bachelor's in Education with a minor in English from back in 19mumblemumbleyear, and even if it were up-to-date, my life has taken a different turn, and I don't feel that teaching is for me any more. With this kind of background, if I don't teach, I am pretty much, as one of my English teachers once put it, an "educated un-employable." What further education do I need to be taken seriously as I re-enter the workforce? [more inside]

What, from the standpoint of the audience, is the difference/advantage between shooting, say, a sitcom, in single-camera mode (SCM) and multiple-camera mode (MCM)? If all you're doing in SCM is shooting dialogue, for example, out-of-order to construct an effect that is effortlessly achieved by switching from one camera to the next in MCM, it would seem that, if anything, you would gain from the immediacy of the actors' reaction in a scene shot in MCM.

Webcam frustration: I have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000, and it's driving me up the wall. When it's not in use, the 'active' light is always on, but when I try to use it with any application, it goes off and the camera does nothing. I've done all the logical stuff I can think of - checked the Logitech site, Googled for this error, uninstalled and reinstalled software and hardware, changed USB ports and toyed with finding a major religion to cling to, but so far nothing makes any difference... so please help me, MetaFilter friends, or Mr WebCam will become surprisingly intimate with Mr Hammer... thanks!

I just quit my job at BC Hansard, where part of my job duties included writing technical documentation. One of my major projects was a word processing manual for our editors (most of whom are not technically savvy), explaining the various in-house Word macros, general computer use and so forth. But Hansard refuses to give me a portfolio copy of my work; not because of any hard feelings, but because they just don't do this. [more inside]

I am curious as to how an hour-long nationally televised program in the U.S., like say E.R., is actually broadcast. Does one person in New York or L.A. push a play button to start the show and all the commercials, or is there coordination between NBC and local affiliate technicians? For that matter, how is the entire programming day coordinated? What goes wrong to create “technical difficulties”? (Ignore the feed into satellite and/or cable TV for my purposes).

Web coding quesiton:
I want to be able to offer my XML feed to others to implement on their webpages. I'm using Movable type (and have refrained from posting my site or it's feed (you can click on my name to get there).

I know they can get the feed via the link.

But, these other sites want just the headlines of the feed; and for it to be updated on their pages - I don't have the knowledge (which is why I came to Ask) - and my google searches haven't been helpful.

I'd love to get a nudge in the right direction.
