I am looking for a hotel in for two nights in Brussels. I have a flight to West Africa on Tuesday, June 7 at 10:25 a.m. so I will need to get to the airport very early. I see that the hotels near the airport generally cost more than those downtown, and aren't necessarily easier to reach. For speed and safety reasons, I'd like to stay at a place that's a direct train or taxi ride away from the airport. [more inside]

My flight lands at LGA in a couple of hours, and I want to get to a place near the Natural History Museum as easily/quickly as possible. Willing to spring for a cab or car if it's substantially faster or just easier to deal with (I'm exhausted). I always use JFK and don't know anything about LGA- is there any advantage to taking Uber or Lyft over a cab? Is it possible that it will be as fast just to take the bus/subway if I'm landing at 6pm? If you see this in time to answer, thanks. :)
Is there any way that I can gift someone a cab ride? Can I do the logistics (or not), pay for it, to let someone I care about get a ride to where they need to be? All while I don't leave my house?
Traveling to DC soon with Man and Boy. Have a question about getting around when the Metro isn't practical or possible. [more inside]

Going to Puerto Vallarta soon, to stay at a small hotel in the Zona Romantica. The hotel offers an airport transfer service (into town at our arrival, out of town when we depart) for about $75 (US) round-trip. On the one hand this seems crazy expensive to me, but then I've never been to the area (and it's a half-hour ride each way) so maybe it's in line with local prices. Is this service a good idea or am I fine just hailing a taxi at the airport?
Four of us will be heading from Williamsburg (Brooklyn) to Roslyn Harbor/Glen Head in Long Island for a wedding on a Saturday. Does anyone have any car service recommendations that will be less than $100 each way? FYI it looks to be about 45 mins/25 miles on a Saturday afternoon. [more inside]
Can you personally recommend a good taxi / car service in L.A.? Has to service Santa Monica, L.A., Burbank. I'm trying to avoid Uber but might have to resort to them -- so experience with L.A. Uber welcome too. Car rental is not an option. Thanks!
I am female and at home alone right now. A guy I don't know rang my doorbell and asked me to call him a cab. He was dressed somewhat appropriately for winter but looked very cold. I was a little nervous but felt sorry for him--but being alone, I said okay and did not let him into the house. I called him a cab, explained the situation to the dispatcher, and they said they would send over the cab right away. I saw a cab pull away a little while later--same company I called--but it was too dark to tell if the guy was in there. I looked through the front door and saw the guy was gone but that he'd left a plastic bag full of stuff. I can't tell what any of it is aside from a smoking cessation package. Question/s: Should I just pitch it? Is it safe? Should I have not called the cab? I feel like I'm being scammed or the victim of some trick, but I don't know what.
The imperial family and I will be traveling to Mumbai in a couple of weeks. We'll be arriving at a profoundly unfriendly hour of the night with three children 12 & under. We need to get from the airport down to the Fort District without getting taken for a ride, as it were. What do you recommend: Taxi rank at the airport? Reliable car service? Recommendations sought.
I'm going with some family on a 4 day 3 night cruise from Miami to Nassau and back. Yay! I've got the flying part and the sitting on a boat sipping umbrella drinks part down, but I have questions about some of the interstitial parts of the trip. [more inside]
I'd really like to pull off a Travis Bickle costume for Halloween, but I'd really really like to do it without having to shave my head. Help me find the perfect mohawk wig/prosthetic/something! [more inside]
I regularly get a taxi at Toronto Pearson Airport to my home in Toronto. There's a flat fare of $47, but if I just get into a cab, about one-third of the time the driver will try to charge me $55 (the rate for the center of downtown) or a meter fare (usually closer to $60). What's the best way to avoid this? [more inside]
Should I land at JFK or LGA on a Friday night? [more inside]
If you're flying in to Reagan National Airport in DC with a baby and your own car seat, how do you get a cab to your hotel? Will the regular cabs at the cab stand be able to accommodate you, or should you reserve a car service or cab ahead of time? If the latter, can you recommend a company? [more inside]

My friend will be arriving at the Megabus station early in the morning (3 or 4 AM, maybe even later). The bus is running very late. I had promised to pick her up at 12AM, and will go to pick her up at 4 or whatever time if there is no other option. BUT I would love to find an alternative for her so I don't conk out early on the 4th. I'd like to know if there are any reputable taxi companies, etc. that she can call when she is close to arriving at the station.
I have a business partner flying into Newark who wants to know if she needs cash for a cab. [more inside]
Yesterday I took a (metred) taxi in Bali. Upon arriving at my destination, I attempted to pay the driver. He said "no sir, no sir" and made me get out of the taxi, at which point I paid him by passing the money to him through the open passenger-side window. Is this some kind of local taxi etiquette? Is there a reason for it?
According to my trusted mechanic, the transmission on my aged buggy is shot (I haven't had 3rd gear for a while, and now the car has begun to have trouble getting into 2nd and 4th) and the car is not worth the cost of fixing it. Fair enough--except that I literally don't have time to buy another (used) one right now. Things will calm down slightly in the second week of May, but not until then. And while I'm aware of other options (the bus, taxi/car services), I don't have the time and money to rely exclusively on those until my schedule eases up. Nor can I afford to rent a car until then. So I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a short-term option that I might be overlooking, up to and including a Magic Car Fairy. Alternatively, if anyone has experience driving a car with this kind of issue and can tell me how safe (or un-) it is, I'd appreciate that input.
A relative of mine needs to get from the Southwest area of Washington DC, to Union Station, around 3am tonight/Monday am. I haven't been here very long, and I've only caught cabs in cab ranks from the airport or flagged one down, never called one for a late-night pickup, so I don't know what's best. Looking at Yelp for taxicabs, they're full of zero-to-one star reviews and horror stories. So please help! How can I best and most reliably get someone from southwest DC to Union Station in the wee hours?
I just signed up for Uber and I want to do right by the driver. A service charge is included, and the web site says "no need to tip." Is tipping really not expected? [more inside]

I have a friend who will be taking care of her mom in Jackson, MS, next week while the latter undergoes surgery. Because said friend survived an accident a few years ago and consequently prefers not to drive, can you recommend a solution for getting them both to the hospital and back? She seems to think Jackson does not have cabs, but I suspect there is a better solution. I do not know which hospital they will be visiting.

Okay, I've been living in NYC over ten years, but there's something about taxi cabs that still confuses me. I understand what the cab lights mean most of the time. Cab number light is off = cab has a passenger. Cab number light is on = cab is available. Off duty lights are on = cab is off duty. But what about when both the number light and the off duty sign are on at the same time? [more inside]
