My roommate told me I can buy a computer and get a full refund on my taxes because I'm a student. Is this true, or partially true, or complete B.S.?

I started a side business in 2009 and operated at a loss. I did a terrible job of record-keeping. Should I submit deductions, or just forget it?

Today was the first day the stimulus withholding showed up in my paycheck. I can't tell: is this additional $13 just a change in withholding, or is my annual income tax actually reduced by $400? If it's just another bullshit rebate, I do not want this money. Please advise.

I am looking to buy 2 1T drives. I'm doing some final cut work but mostly for media storage. I'm looking at the Western Digital 1 TB My Book Premium Edition II Triple Interface ($236) and the G-Tech Q drive which retail at $445. That's almost twice the price of the western digital.

Yet another tax question, sorry. We're confused about our tax situation this year. Details: we were married last June, so this is our first time filing together. We make almost equivalant salaries (48,000 and 54,000), sold ~14,000 in mutual funds this year, invested ~900 in one 401k, and paid about 2400 in student loan interest. We don't own a home. One of us claimed 1 exemption, the other claimed 2.
