Overpayment by employer - gross vs. net repayment

I just received an email from the company through whom I contract, claiming that they had paid me twice for a recent week. Obviously they now want that money back; however, they are asking for the full amount I was paid, NOT the amount I received after taxes. I am assuming I am on the hook for the whole [cursing] thing, but can someone tell me how this works? [more inside]

AMT, not ATM

I am single, rent, and payed AMT for 2011. If I owned my own home and had a mortgage, would I have been able to deduct the interest, or is the fact that I payed AMT a sign that no further deductions were available to me? I have few deductions but itemize because my state tax alone is more than the standard deduction. You are not now, and will never be, my accountant.

What are some good allowable tax deductions under $1000 in Australia?

I have a small home based computer business in Australia and need some allowable tax deductions. I understand that assets such as office furniture, plant & equipment are immediately tax deductible (don't need to be depreciated) if they're under $1,000. What are some things I could buy for my home office to reduce my tax? Thanks in advance
