Can I have my own black box?

Is there such as thing as a personal audio recorder that has a rolling 'black box' feature where hitting the record button will start recording now, but also save the previous X minutes of recording data? I work in a job where it's often necessary to record conversations, and sometimes by the time you know you want to you've already missing something, which then causes a bit of a stilted pause as you get the recorder going and ask someone to repeat that last bit.....

So,

Is there an audio recorder that I could keep in my pocket, running all the time, which would only actually save data if I hit the button?

I've hit Google, but I'm not sure my terms are correct.

Thanks!

(and for the privacy nuts out there, don't worry, this is very legal in the context I do it.)

I just want to see my Consey!

I am going to be in LA the week of August 10th, and I'm dying to see a taping of the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. I put in a request for tickets, but the website said they are only taking reservations for September. Any MeFites have any inside tips on how to get tickets? I know, I know, I should have requested tickets months ago, but I just finalized my trip today. I'll wince in the corner here while you wag your finger at me.

I understand that there are standby tickets available and that about half the people get in...but I was hoping to get a concrete confirmation ahead of time instead of driving to Burbank during rush hour and waiting in line.

I figure we have Mefites in just about every industry, from funeral directing to mythbusting, so I am crossing my fingers that someone has an inside connection maybe?

Mefi, can you hope me?

Landlord recording conversations

I just found out my landlord has been secretly taping our conversations. She uses a tape recorder hidden in her purse. The landlord is in the process of evicting another tenant of the building and has asked the court to bring in tapes of conversations as evidence. The judge gave her forms to fill out so she can get the tape recorder and tapes past security. I live in Illinois which is a two-party consent state. (both parties have to agree to be recorded and informed of the recording). I plan on showing up in court during my neighbors eviction hearing. If the landlord does play a tape of one of my conversations (she stated to the judge she has recorded evidence from "another tenant") what can I do about it? Do I go to the cops with a trial transcript ? Do I talk to a lawyer? Do I ask the judge to take the tapes into evidence?

watching other people's (televised) fun

Where can I watch tv show tapings in Melbourne or Sydney? I'd like to be in a live studio audience or watch the taping of a tv show. Doesn't have to be a particularly good show but I'm having surprising difficulty in tracking down any information. This is on my list of things to do, and therefore I must make it so.

The big complication is that they don't really film anything here, so I'm looking for any shows that might accept audience folk in Sydney (any weekend) or Melbourne (over easter only).

Thoughts?
