Are cassette tape "Norelco" cases with sharp corners still available?

I'm a musician who's released music on cassette tape before, and I'm going for a "vintage" look. All the present-day duplication services and suppliers I've seen only offer cassette tape cases with rounded corners. Where could I find classic-looking ones for sale in quantities of 50–100 or so? How to mimic what happens (chemically) to analog tape as it ages?

I'm a musician, working on someone's project where the sound needs to be very accurate to the recording techniques and sound of a specific time period in the early 80s. There are many steps in the recording process, but the sound of old tape is one of the more difficult ones to get right. Even if no one here has an answer, I would love to be in touch with someone who knows what happens chemically to analog tape as it ages (under normal storage conditions), and whether it's possible to mimic that process chemically with a new reel of tape. Thanks!

Boutique crafting duct tape

I've got a nephew who enjoys building duct tape wallets and the like. Generally we just buy him tape off the rack down at the hardware store (they have a surprisingly large selection of color and patterns) but I'm curious if there is .... I don't know, artisanal tape out there somewhere. Something to get as a special treat.

Did I kill my printer by trying to save ink?

Please help me save my inkjet printer. Some time ago I used the old trick of taping the ink cartridges to use the perfectly good ink left inside when the printer claims that they are "empty". It worked brilliantly and I got probably over 100 extra pages before the print quality started to diminish. Now I have replaced the cartridges, and the printer is spitting out completely blank pages. Why did this happen, and how can I fix it? [more inside]

Portable Cassette Tape Recorder Recommendations

I need to buy a tape recorder to do interviews with people in punk bands. I'd love if it was also loud enough at playback to function as an extremely crummy tape player so I can transcribe the tapes without headphones or listen to cassettes in my room (this magically started working again, but it's only hooked up in my living room). Temporarily sealing windows

The building I live in will be power washed next week and the landlord has asked that we (i) close our windows and (ii) move items away from the windows that might be damaged by inadvertent leakage. I'd like to take the extra step of sealing my windows because I am fully confident that they will leak. My thought is some kind of tape but I don't want to harm the paint on the sills or leave marks on the glass. Thoughts?

Reliable company for reattaching cassette tape to spool.

I have a few cassette tapes that survived third class mail from Ohio to Sierra Leone and back in the early seventies, and then have been pretty much left alone for the last 40 years. We have been digitizing them lately and on two of them the end of the tape has detached itself from the spool. I need someone who knows this stuff backwards and forwards to reattach them and/or digitize the content for us. I remember fixing cassette tapes myself back when they were the preferred media, but I also remember having about a 5% failure rate. Way too high for this operation. Company recommendations (US preferably) would be gladly received.

Help me get through a TV taping

I wrote a story for an online women's magazine, and it was picked up for a Canadian television network. They'll tape me as I'm telling my story, and then they'll re-enact it with actors. Boxes to pulp to boxes again, but what of the tape?

I unpack a cardboard box. I cut the tape and flatten the box, and a person with a truck takes it to the recycling center, where it is chopped up and wetted into a paste and made into other boxes. What happens to the tape that held the box together? Is it soaked off before the box is chopped up? Is it a total waste, or is it incorporated into a recycled product? How bad is plastic tape for the environment?

Tips for buying a cassette deck, in 2013, in Chicago?

I'm putting together a stereo system that only needs to be able to play cassette tapes and vinyl records, because yes I am that much of a hipster. I have my speakers and turntable, and I just picked up a 1970s receiver with integrated cassette deck...which stopped working almost immediately. How do you go about buying something with many breakable, moving parts that stopped being manufactured with any quality in the 1980s? Should I replace my receiver with just a receiver and get a standalone tape deck? Where do you even buy a standalone tape deck? [more inside]

Is naptha (lighter fluid) safe to clean windows?

I have some masking tape adhesive residue on my windows. They are vinyl windows double pane with argon gas inside. I use naptha with is lighter fluid although I use the actual stuff from a paint store to remove adhesive on other stuff it works well. It is safe on plastic. What I'm wondering will it damage the stuff that holds the glass panels to the frame (I think its silicone not sure though) I dont want it to get damaged and let the argon gas leak out.

Where can I purchase narrow tape with custom printing on it?

I've got a lot of stuff. People like to borrow my stuff. And they sometimes forget whose stuff it is and I never get it back! I had an idea to custom print my name, email, and phone number on narrow tape (perhaps vinyl based, similar to electrician's tape). Then, I can affix this tape to things that I loan out so that they're easily tracked back to me. I tried looking around at various shops online, but the options are overwhelming, and they seem to be geared toward packing tape and business applications. All I need is one or two narrow rolls, not an entire box of the stuff! Has anyone done anything like this that can share some of your expertise with me?

Need grip tape for laptop computer

I bought a laptop recently that seems to be naturally slippery and hard to get a sure grip on (without squeezing like mad). I always transport it in its bag, but it feels like it could easily slip out of my hands just moving between bag and desk sometimes. Because of this, I'm looking for some better grip tape to apply to the bottom of it. (I currently have duct tape which isn't quite as grippy as I'd like.) [more inside]
