I'm looking for guitar tablature sites similar to Dansm's that are created by one person out of a labor of love, as opposed to OLGA-type "tab archives" like Ultimate-guitar.com.
Anther good example would be Justinguitar.com.

Looking for contemporary folk, rock and/or roll (including metal in all its many forms), pop, and classic rock. Not looking for classical, jazz, or traditional folk. The site can be devoted to a single band (though not just a collection of OLGA tabs for one band) or many. Bonus points if performance tips, instructional videos and other commentary is included.

Examples of what I’m not looking for are harmony-central, chordie, x-tab, ultimate-guitar and the rest of those tab archives.
Tabs, pseudo-columns, and wrapping lines

Name. Tab. Phone number. This creates two columns. One for name and one for phone number, except--when someone has a really long name that goes past the tab setting and impinges on the phone number area.

Is there some sort of tab setting that will make that long name wrap around, creating a second line within its own name area?

For the record, I know I could use a table to do exactly this, but I'm reformatting a huge amount of text that is already laid out with tabs. Any advice for this poor sap who accepted the job?

The text is in an InDesign document, but I can copy it to a word processor or anything that would do the trick. Thanks!

Gmail open link in new tab?

In Firefox, I use the middle button of my mouse to open links in a new tab. I really wish I could do that with gmail (i.e., middle click on several emails and have them open each in a new tab, or middle click on "compose mail" so that would open in a new tab). Is there any way to do that? Some links actually work already, such as inbox, other folders and labels.

As a somewhat distant second choice, right clicking and selecting "open in a new tab" would be better than nothing.

Tabs in Filemaker not working

When I try to create a tab using Filemaker Pro 8.0v2 on my Mac (OS version 10.4.11), it displays correctly in "edit" mode. But when I enter data-entry mode, FM "sees through" the tab - and displays all fields (from all the tabs) stacked on top of one another. Clicking the other tabs, I see the same thing - all fields stacked. The *first* time I created the tabs, I dragged all the fields into the proper place and went into data-entry mode. It worked properly. I then went back into edit mode and moved the tab window slightly, changed the color of the two tabs to make the display more aesthetic. *Then* it stopped working - and no matter what I do, won't display properly (all fields across tabs are stacked).

After hours of trying to re-create the tabular box and varying little things (not changing color, etc), I never got it to work again. I called my colleague, who I share the database with online, and asked her to try to set it up - thinking it was a problem with my local version of FM. She created the tab and it worked! I then changed one of the fields within the tab and it reverted back to the problem display (stacked fields).

She tried re-creating the tab from scratch... Same problem. Thinking that it only takes the first time created on a machine, we got all fields formatted exactly as we want them, and pulled a third colleague in - thinking we could have her create it for the first time and it work, then just drop all the pre-formatted stuff into the new tab. It didn't work.

I'm at wit's end. Any suggestions?

configuration of vista breadcrumb bar/firefox second tab row

Is it possible to trim Vista Breadcrumb sections so that the breadcrumb bar doesn't clip off most of the path in long titles? I.e. anything over say, 10 characters gets cropped, so that long paths can be shown?

Also, is there a way to fix the glitchy second row of tabs in firefox? I want the second row of tabs to have the same height as the first, so that graphics don't go all screwy.

Firefox javascript tab closure command?

Firefox javascript command: how to close a tab? Last week you helped me create a toolbar bookmark for scrolling down a half page in Firefox using the command javascript:self.scrollBy(0,300); as seen here.

Now I'd like to add a second command to that bookmark: a command to close the active tab. The button then would close the active tab and subsequently scroll down a half page of the next tab that appears. In my reading there appears to be some difficulty making using javascript to close tabs in FF 2.0, and not all pre FF 2.0 solutions currently work.

Ideas?

How to get scrollwheel-clicking to open links in a new tab in Firefox?

The scrollwheel-click has suddenly stopped working in Firefox. I don't recall making any changes in preferences, but all of a sudden, what used to open up links in new tabs, no longer does so. Instead wheel-clicking on a link does nothing. Any idea how to fix this problem? I feel like I'm browsing with one less finger! (Mac OSX.4.11, Firefox 2.0.0.11, Safari is unaffected by the problem.) I searched google and AskMe, both of which suggested changing settings in about:config, but I was unable to successfully fiddle around with this to get it working.

How do I manage tons of browser tabs?

How do you manage a lot of open browser tabs? I spend most of my workday in a web browser. I typically work on about a dozen problems in parallel, for each of which I tend to have a dozen open tabs -knowledge base articles, bug descriptions, manuals. My work requires that I am able to switch context almost instantly, for example if a person I'm working with calls in for one of the problems I'm working on.

Switching between context costs a lot of time in itself, but losing context, i.e. having to search again for the pages I had opened, is prohibitively expensive in terms of productivity.

How would you handle this? I've tried with bookmarking (bookmark all tabs in firefox), but it doesn't work well as new tabs get added to and deleted from one set. There's a tab group extension, but it breaks things like changing tabs via Ctrl-Tab.

Is there a way for me to send someone a bundle of URLs in such a way that all the URLs will just open in Firefox as tabs, without the person having to actually go through and click on each one? I see there's a spec for something like this in css3

...but it will take too long for me to figure out how to build it by myself, and anyway, I don't know if that's even implemented in Gecko. I'm hoping there's some kind of pre-made tool that does this.

What I'm trying to actually do: I'm going to have a phone call with a client, wherein we discuss various websites of my choosing. I don't want to sent a list of URLs and tell her to click on each one; I think that's obnoxious. I want to send an email and say something like "double-click on this, and it will open 10 tabs, and then we'll go through them one at a time." I'm open to other solutions that will solve the same problem.

Guitar to mandolin tabs?

How do I convert guitar tabulature to mandolin tabs? Hi, I've just managed to get my hands on a mandolin, and since I've never played any musical instrument before, I'm just looking at mandolin tabs and trying to play songs. Is there any (easy) way to convert a standard guitar tab to its mandolin version? And while I'm at it, I would be grateful for any tips and tricks to help me learn to play the mandolin. (I've trawled the numerous mandolin websites on the net, and I'm now looking for personal recommendations from y'all, and I'm on a Mac, if that helps).

Guitar songs that don't focus on chords?

Help me find "picking-heavy" guitar tabs for acoustic guitar!! I browsed some old threads tagged with guitar and tabs and such, and didn't wasn't able to find a question similar to this.

I'm just looking for suggestions of songs in which the guitar plays a discernible melody in the background instead of a mass of chords. Examples: Heartbeats by Jose Gonzalez, Landing in London by 3 Doors Down, Californication by RHCP

Conditions:

1) Complete Amateur: Clapton's stuff, as much as I adore it, is a bit out of my range. Believe me, I've tried.

2) Taste in Music: Alt Rock, Soft Rock, that kinda thing. Death Cab, RHCP, All American Rejects, Muse, etc.

3) Tiny Hands. as in, 5'4" female tiny hands. I literally cannot stretch my hand far enough to play Csus4, for example.

I can find individual songs and the tabs thereof relatively easily, so I'm just looking for suggestions of songs. Thanks!

I had a dream in which I was helping a friend figure out chords to a song on a piano. I woke up not remembering the song, but remembering the chords. Can you help me figure out if this is a song? We were working on three chords. I've googled and I'm not coming up with any contenders. I'm not near a musical instrument, so I can't be sure, but it doesn't sound like any song I know. Any ideas? Thanks!

C (C E G)
Em (played on the piano as B E G)

EmDim (Bflat E G)
or
Can I make Firefox 2 for Mac open URL's called by an external application like NetNewsWire by reusing an existing open tab with the same URL, instead of opening a new tab? I don't understand this behavior being a default, as I don't see why I would need a new tab with Metafilter, instead of merely reloading the existing tab.
I need an alternative to NetVibes

Anyone know of a good alternative to www.NetVibes.com? I need to be able to create tabs and put a list of bookmarks and maybe RSS feeds underneath each tab. I just started library school and our professor wanted us to use NetVibes.com to create a virtual reference desk. Everyone in the class has discovered bugs with NetVibes and we are trying to find an alternative. For example, you can't put a different list of bookmarks under each tab. Also, we don't want to use tags for organizing bookmarks. So here's what I'm looking for. I need something that works like NetVibes, with tabs that can be labeled with titles like "Government" "News" "Entertainment" "Encyclopedias" "Search Engines" etc. Under each tab, we need to be able to add a list of links and maybe RSS feeds (if possible). Google's new "personalized homepage" now has tabs that can be added, but the problem is that you can only add about 6 tabs. We need to be able to have between 15-30.
It can't require knowing HTML because most of the students don't know how to do that.
Thanks for any suggestions you might have!!

Help me to find guitar tabs/chords for childrens songs. I've just got a job as a teacher, and kind of mentioned that I can play the guitar, I can....just. So I want to expand my repertoire from no songs, to many song, that will keep 6 year olds happy for hours(minutes will do to start with)

I'm not an expert on finding tabs/chords on the internet, and there seems to be loads of sites out there, but not many that I've found with children specific songs.

Also any song books that people would recommend me to use for this age range would be handy as well.

Thanks in advance.

How do I set up alternate PDF navigation?

I swear I once saw a PDF with tabbed navigation along the bottom edge of the pages, kind of like what you'd see on an Excel workbook. How do I set up that effect? I've converted an MS-Word document to PDF with the full verson of Adobe Acrobat, and the only navigation settings I can summon up are either bookmarks (set on table of contents levels) or thumbnails (all pages) which are both displayed along the left edge.

I have access to Acrobat 6 (PC) and Acrobat 7 (Mac). I've ransacked the Acrobat help pages and web tutorials for both, but haven't found anything at all about workbook-style navigation along the bottom edge. Was it a fever dream? Am I hallucinating product functionality yet again? Help me, metafilter: you're my only hope.

NO, I would not like to open the link in a new tab

Can I get rid of the "open in new tab" option on the right-click menu in firefox? I hate opening things in a new tab. I don't use tabs, tabs don't work for me. That's just how it is. So I basically NEVER want to open a link in a new tab.

"Open in new tab" is right next to "Open in new window" on the right-click menu in Firefox, so I'm constantly accidentally opening something in a new tab. I would like this option completely removed from the menu, if possible. I guess if it were removed, "Bookmark this link" would then be the new accidental target, so if you could tell me how to add a blank slot to that menu that would be cool too.

Thanks!

Pre-existing JavaScript for using tab to indent textarea contents?

Has anyone previously published a JavaScript methodology for using the Tab key to indent while within HTML textarea controls? I'd like to use light markup (Markdown) inside a Web form for composing blog entries/essays/etc. However, many elements require whitespace indentation, e.g. blockquotes, nested lists, etc, for which I'd prefer to use the Tab key instead of raping the spacebar (Markdown works best with 4-space indents, otherwise I might just get by with 2 spaces).

One can use JavaScript to implement a "normal" usage of the Tab key, and I have already started on such an implementation. However, I don't want to re-invent the wheel, and find it hard to believe nobody else has done something like this prior. Google has not helped much (tough thing to search for--far too much noise in the results).

Does anyone know of any pre-existing scripts/techniques that accomplish this, or should I forge ahead and continue writing my own?

Please note that I am familiar with the "tabs vs spaces" debate and do not wish for it to repeat here; in addition, I realize that for publicly facing websites, overriding default keyboard behavior can be an accessibility no-no--this is for the admin interface for a personal website.

simultaneous tabbed browsing

I'd love to be able to simultaneously open in Firefox tabs the URLs in a del.icio.us bundle. I'm looking for a simultabulous solution. I know that I can right-mouse click on a Firefox Live Bookmark and open everything in tabs. I want to be able to do this with my del.icio.us tags, like click on a del.icio.us bundle and have all the URLs within open in tabs. Is there a Firefox extension or add-on that will help me do this? Or, is there another way to go about simultaneously opening many URLs in a given del.icio.us tag/category?

Firefox tabs problem

Help me make middle clicking open a new tab in Firefox for me at work. I am on XP Pro SP 2, Firefox 1.0.7. In about:config browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick is set to true. In the control panel on my mouse, there is no option to fiddle with the middle button except to change the scrolling length. What to do? I want my middle clicks at work too!
