I got one of those $50 FireOS tablets, and it works okay... EXCEPT for Youtube videos. Sometimes it's okay, but most of the time it just hangs without playing a Youtube video. I assume this spotty performance is because it's not using an official Google-YouTube app? Anyone else have this problem? If I try to put Android on it, will YouTube actually work any better? (I don't want to brick this thing if it wouldn't help anyway.)
I want a small laptop that I can use to watch netflix and videos, and play steam games on. I often hook it up to my projector, so it needs an HDMI output. I am also curious about possibly getting one with a touchscreen to I can draw and make art in bed. Lots more details inside. [more inside]
Non-techy buying for very-techy .... Looking for a tablet that has features like my totally awesome new Galaxy note5. My husband could use it for his work and I want to get it for him for Christmas! Awesome things about it that I am looking for 1). Ability to take pictures then immediately and easily write notes on pictures and easily share 2). Stylus that works as like the Galaxy note5 (remove from holder and kicks into note mode) 3). Newly released so hopefully good processing power (what ever make the phone so responsive)
I'm looking for a way to mirror a desktop Windows PC to an Android tablet. [more inside]
I have this tablet case. I have an Asus transformer pad minus they keyboard base. The case works fine one way, but the tablet sleeps if it's rotated 180 degrees in the case. [more inside]
Now that I've gotten a new domain (thanks guys) I want to modernize and streamline my website. I basically want a single page with ' click to expand' photos that looks good on a tablet. Think a nice restaurant website. I have no idea how to do this, my incredibly creaky HTML skills are at least 15 years out of date, and template / design for you sites like Squarespace all want a hosting bundle package. I just want something drop-dead simple that will export an index.htm file at the end. Does this program/service exist? [more inside]
I've got a first-gen Nexus 7 tablet that I once loved dearly. But for some months now, since one Android update or another, it has become unusably slow. Even between basic functions, it now has the kind of lag time that allows a person to go the kitchen, brew a cup of coffee, come back and settle into their chair and still find the thing dragging. Surely, it's not gone for good. How can I make it usable again? Specific instructions or links greatly appreciated. [more inside]
I'm trying to find an affordable tablet for kids to use...details inside. [more inside]
I got an android tablet, which is the first mobile smart device I've ever bought. (I'm still in the dumbphone contingent.) What are the few apps that you've found to be the most useful or just plain neat? [more inside]

I'm looking to replace my old busted laptop with a tablet (since all I used the laptop for nowadays was browsing the internet in bed) but I'm out of touch with the vast array of tablets out there and I don't know where to start. More details below the cut. [more inside]
I decided to get the kid a computer for her 13th birthday. Does she need a laptop or can I get away with an iPad with external keyboard? Primary uses: homework (word processing, internet research), games, general internet. [more inside]
I want to add multiple books at once to Aldiko Bookreader on my Samsung Tablet. My current method is I upload books to Dropbox, and then essentially click on them on a time, and tell Aldiko to open them. Is there a way just to drag files somewhere, so they will batch add to Aldiko Bookreader?
What is going on with the battery of my Samsung Galaxy S Tab and how can I fix it? [more inside]
Suppose your favourite childhood book is being brought to the iPad (tablet), how would you gamify it? I'm setting this as a challenge for my game design students but I thought it was such an interesting question, I'd love to hear all your thoughts.
There are so many terrible educational apps which seem to be a combination of flash cards / slot machine with in-app purchases or hard to avoid ads. What are your favorite tablet apps which actually have taught your toddler something other than randomly swiping around the screen? [more inside]
Is a hard-shelled case for a glass-fronted tablet such as an iPad more likely to lead to shattering, when the thing is dropped at its corner, than a thick padded fabric case? Asking because of bad recent experiences.
I'm curious about bans on technology at the college level. I've read previous threads on this topic but they predate the widespread introduction of iPads and tablets. If you're a student or instructor are there particular types of classes that ban electronics or is it more or less random based on the instructor? For "no laptop" classes are tablets allowed? [more inside]
I bought some bluray+DVD+download discs of some movies for my kids. When we're traveling, it's nice for them to be able to watch on their tablet - a Kindle Fire - but when I try to use the download code that came with the DVDs, it only gives the option to download to iTunes. Is there a way to get these onto a Kindle Fire? [more inside]
Is there some kind of personal dental record / tooth history app, or even a way of marking comments on tooth diagrams, for either major tablet OS? [more inside]
I have a Teclast x80h tablet (based on x86 hardware) that is running a Windows 8.1 build that the OEM installed. I'd like to reinstall Windows using media downloaded from Microsoft (or similar known-good channels), preferably without buying a new license. Is this possible? [more inside]
Hey folks! Any tips on using the Google Nexus Tablet to read articles and books? I have the kindle app, and it is not as intuitive as I would like. For example, I would like the text to be larger, BUT still be able to view the entire page, not just parts of it. No luck with goggle searches, uggh. thanks :)
We spend a few months in Italy each year, and duplicate our lives from Australia over there. Last year we purchased a second-hand car, and find it really useful to use a GPS for navigation. Our TelCo also gave us two Samsung Note 3 Android Tablets. We have smartphones and iPads, and are hoping to use the android tablet in the vehicle for navigation when required. Would Google Maps be the best? There is the provision for SIM cards in the Samsung, however I would probably prefer to link it to a portable hotspot if needed. PREFERABLY a navigation app for Italy which works well off-line. Any suggestions? TIA
I need to put some games on a few Microsoft Surface RT tablets for use in a coffee shop by kids while Mammy and Daddy are sipping their coffee. I'm no expert but is there a way to do that while restricting access to the computers' settings by customers?
I am considering getting a tablet computer mainly for two tasks: reading ebooks/magazines (with Nook/Kindle apps) and writing notes/sketching outlines for my personal projects. Reading I know would be pretty straight forward, but I'm having a hard time figuring out if tablets are the right thing for my note taking needs. [more inside]
I'm looking for suggestions on how to gather data using paper-forms which can then be digitized, to compliment a web-based surveying system. [more inside]
The screen is "cracked" but actually only the glass in front is cracked. Asus won't fix it without replacing the LCD as well and they'll charge me like $200. Help me find someone who will only do what I want, and charge reasonably. [more inside]
I want to use a PC or tablet for one single application - to go to a website where someone logs in with their account, "clocks in", and then logs out. That's it. (Snowflakes...) [more inside]
I recently bought a new Alcatel One Touch 7 Tab, running Jelly Bean. It has a lot of problems, often it takes several seconds to respond, apps freeze, it has graphical issues with some games that aren't necessarily new, some apps don't even run, and it hangs when going from one app to another. [more inside]
I like to draw, I like to code, and I need a new laptop. Because of points 1 and 2, I'm looking for something that both has a good, lap-friendly keyboard AND has a digitizer pen. What's the best machine that fits both of those criteria? [more inside]
I have a 2012 Nexus 7 that hasn't been successfully turned on in over a year. After the last time I used it, I was without it for a few months. When I returned, it didn't seem to react to being plugged in to charge, even leaving it charging for a whole day. I didn't have time to deal with it then, so now it's been sitting on a shelf for many months. Can it be resurrected, or is it probably just dead?
I'm thinking of picking up a tablet for playing Dungeons & Dragons. I need some advice on which tablets do well with both graphics-heavy PDFs and spreadsheets. Under $200 preferred. [more inside]
On the box for the Orbo Jr. 4GB Android tablet, there is a picture of the tablet with a game on the screen. Assuming this is a real app/game (even if it's edited in later for the product packaging, which I assume it is), what app/game is it? It looks awfully similar to Super Mario Bros. 1-1, but with a pirate character instead.
I've got a refurb ASUS ME173x tablet here, that I bought to give my one of my kids for Christmas. It's actually one of four identical tablets that we bought for our four (non-identical) kids. I've updated three of them to Android 4.2.2, per the notification that popped up on each. This last one, though, seems to be hung up on the actual installation. [more inside]
My loyalties are firmly in the Apple camp. I've owned many iPhones, iPads and various Macs. However, I know nothing about Android devices... and it's about time I learn. I'm a self proclaimed tech geek for pity's sake, but yet I am woefully ignorant about all things Android. I want to change this! [more inside]
I'm looking to buy a sub-$200 tablet primarily to play Hearthstone and watch Netflix. I'm finding it confusing to to pick out the best quality tablet in this price range that will run Hearthstone well, do you have a suggestion? I am open to Windows, Android, or Apple. If I understand correctly, the Hearthstone app is not out for Android yet but it should be available soon.

My iPad 2 recently bit the dust. Before then, I had been using the iPad for entertainment + school, as well as a droid smartphone for typical smartphone things. My droid is also on its last legs, and I'm considering changing my technology situation to an iPad Mini with mobile data + a dumb phone (just talk and text). Questions ensue. [more inside]
Crap! I dropped the tablet to my (fairly) new Asus Padfone X face down on the tile in the kitchen. Where do I find the parts to replace the pieces? [more inside]
Family members have gotten an Android tablet for my 97-year-old grandmother. Please suggest some ways to make the tablet as friendly and easy to use as possible for someone who has computer experience, but who can be pessimistic about learning new things and can get frustrated with people trying to teach her. We're particularly interested in tablet settings and also methods for instructing her in its use, but also open to hearing about tutorials or apps that might make her experience smoother. I'm overseas, so I'll be passing along ideas to my dad. [more inside]
I have an iPad 3 (Retina) which is excellent and works well. I am potentially able to buy a new Hudl 2 tablet with Clubcard vouchers costing me £65. What can I do with it that I can't do with my iPad? [more inside]

Music teaching n00b filter. I now have a tablet with ear training software I use in lessons and discovered the kids quite automatically pick up terms like "minor second" which I hadn't dreamt about teaching them yet. Just as they're in the app. Then when they're stuck on a melody on their instrument I say "go up a minor second here" and it works. Holy interval, batman! What are similar ways you use to teach musical concepts without being all obvious about it? Would it be correct to classify this as active/experiental learning and what are your favourite resources? I'm looking for an awesome bluetooth headset/handset/gadget. It should play well with an up to date android tablet. Do you know of a bluetooth device cooler than the Sony SBH-52? [more inside]
I was given a tablet demo unit from my workplace because we no longer sell this model. It's functional and great, but still has the old security base attached. It's a circular nub about 1" thick that fits into the cradle of the demo pedestal, and has wires coming off both ends of the nub. I can cut off the wires, but the nub is superglued onto the back of the device. What's the best way to remove it? Photos within. [more inside]
In the next month or so, I'm going to need a new laptop. Windows 8 scares me, but I'm willing to try. In the spirit of being game, and because I like the idea of tablets but can't currently live with a tablet as my primary device, I'm considering a 2-in-1 device. Reviews are mixed. I can't tell if I should just get a normal laptop and wait a couple of generations for 2-in-1s to work some bugs out. Does anyone have experience/recommendations? [more inside]
Help! I need a toolbelt-like sling or sash that I can wear in my classroom, to hold a tablet, pens and pencils, and a remote or two. Preferably something that doesn't look ridiculous. [more inside]
