If you build it, they will shred.

I'm looking for guitar tablature sites similar to Dansm's that are created by one person out of a labor of love, as opposed to OLGA-type "tab archives" like Ultimate-guitar.com.
Anther good example would be Justinguitar.com.

Looking for contemporary folk, rock and/or roll (including metal in all its many forms), pop, and classic rock. Not looking for classical, jazz, or traditional folk. The site can be devoted to a single band (though not just a collection of OLGA tabs for one band) or many. Bonus points if performance tips, instructional videos and other commentary is included.

Examples of what I’m not looking for are harmony-central, chordie, x-tab, ultimate-guitar and the rest of those tab archives.

Free CSV to TAB?

Converting CSV to TAB: is there a free software for this? I'm a non- programmer type, and i only know the real expensive soft CSV2TAB. Any free alternatives? It's for a file where each of 4.000 lines contains two terms separated by a comma, which I'd like replaced by a tab.
Can't I tab through radio buttons?

Building a PDF form. Radio buttons getting skipped when tabbing through fields. I'm building a PDF form for a client. I'm using Acrobat Pro 6 (please...no hate) The form includes several sets of Radio buttons. I've set each set of buttons up in the usual manner...Each radio button in the set has the same name, but different values.

Testing the form in Acrobat Pro, everything works fine. You can tab sequentially through all the fields. When it comes to the Radio Buttons, tabbing highlights through each button in order. No problems.

However, testing the same form in Reader 7 presents some odd behavior. You can still tab from field-to-field. However, when you tab to a set of Radio Buttons, the first button in the set gets highlighted (as it should). But, tabbing again does not move focus to the next button in the set. Instead, tabbing jumps your focus directly to the next form object immediately following the set of tabs. In short, you can't tab within a set of Radio Buttons.

I've discovered that, when you've tabbed to the first button in a set, if you switch to your arrow keys, you can navigate within the set. However, using the arrow key also acts as the "Return" key and selects whichever button you have focus on.

Now, it's been awhile since I built (or used) a PDF form, but I don't recall this "must switch to arrow keys" thing in order to navigate through a Radio Button set. Am I hallucinating, or shouldn't one be able to tab through radio button sets? Having to switch to the arrow buttons is horribly non-intuitive and is likely to frustrate a good many users, for whom this form is intended.

Any clues as to how I can get this working the way I want would be greatly appreciated.
Alternately, a dope-slap and a "that's the way it is." will be humbly accepted.

How can I automatically protect a Firefox tab?

How can I set Firefox up so that it will load a tab from a bookmark, and then automatically protect/lock it? For example, I have www.foo.com as a bookmark. When I open the foo.com bookmark, I want Firefox to protect & lock the tab automatically, until I manually remove the protection.

Is this possible? And if so, how?

Anyone care to take a guess at the chords in "the kiss" by Judee Sill (youtube link inside)? Never having heard of Judee Sill before, I came across this performance on the Old Grey Whistle Test (UK TV show from the 70s). I would dearly love to work out a guitar arrangement but can't find any tab or sheet music anywhere. I'm not bad at transcibing guitar tracks from ear but I'm less certain about the piano. Can any ivory-tinkling MeFite help me figure out the chords? You can see her hands at some points in the performance which might help.

How should a walkout be handled?

What should happen when a customer maliciously walks out on his bill? I continue to work in the service industry in Atlanta. Blech. Anyhow, it is current practice almost everywhere that if a customer leaves without paying the server has to cover the tab.

Now, upon thought, this seems very wrong. The rest. picks up all kinds of loss, the kitchen burns food, customers decide they don't like something, beer gets spilled. As a buisness loss is built into the budget, so why does the particular loss get turned into something else? Now, I guess you could say its because the server shouldn't let them leave, but first if someone is determined to leave, they are going to leave, second do we convince our table to really like their overdone hamburger?

If you work in a retail store and someone shoplifts, it isn't taken out of your paycheck (is it?). It just seems illegal to me, especially since its one of those unwritten rules that never shows up in personnell manual's, its just not in the employment contract that a wage earning employee would share in the losses when we don't precisely share in the profits.

What do you think?

Professional looking index tabs?

I am trying to make index tab dividers for a group of three ring binders I am producing for a training class at my work. I would like to have them look as professional as possible.

The image below illustrates how I am creating them now.. and how I would LIKE them to look. (These are for 5.5 x 8.5 size sheets):

Aside from spending a zillion dollar with a professional service bureau, does anyone have any ideas how to achieve good results 'at home'?

Help me learn to play the blues...

Help me learn to play the blues... Basically, I'm looking for info - scales, riff cheat sheets, etc. that will allow me to build a basic repertoire of blues chops like this man plays: Now, obviously, I'm not expecting to be able to play like Buddy Guy anytime soon (or in my lifetime,) but I also recognize that what he's playing isn't very complicated. It's *how* he plays it that makes it so compelling.

Anyway - if you know of any good web resources to help one get started building some basic blues guitar chops, send em my way...

I give you a mp3 of me playing the first few bars. Help me name it please! Bonus karma for a link to tabs for both guitar parts.

tab character in linux

how do i print a tab character Hi,
i don't normally use this resource for technical issues i can't solve (or i try not to) but this is proving annoying. I've spent too long working on this as it is. I am sshing to a linux box from a windows machine.
i am trying to sort a file by the last column of a text file. each row is seperated by tabs. my problem is that to use sort with tabs as the field, i actually need to type a tab character. However I can't seem to type a tab character, i think the shell won't let me. I can type tab to finish a command or file name, but i can't actually type a tab. I can type a tab in vi or emacs, but just not in the shell.
so what do i do?
sort doesn't want \t or ^l , it wants a tab.
so my question is: what is going on here, how do i work around this?

Question number 5540

As I begin to learn the piano again, there are some songs I'd love to try to play but for which I cannot find sheet music (I definitely want to learn to play by ear at some point, but I don't think that point would best be now). I can however obtain guitar tabs for the songs, and so I'm hoping to try to translate those into rough sheet music for the piano. Can I just translate it note by note (and chord by chord), or are there some specifics about guitar tabs I should be aware about and take into account (it seems that way, a quick direct translation didn't seem to turn out quite right)?
