My husband thinks that the occasional quarter inch of food in the disposal will destroy our septic system. I could appreciate his paranoia, if, perhaps, I were stuffing a ham down the drain or putting a pot of boiling oil. However, this evening, a small scrap of a sole fillet fell into the drain and you would have thought that I had boobytrapped the entire system. Is it possible to ruin one's septic system from the occasional food scrap (and, I mean "scrap", i.e., no more than a nub)?

Can I buy a "Korean Language XP Operating System" here in the USA ?
I want to get a Laptop in Korean Language. Where can I get one ? I called Dell and they did not have one in the USA. From what I understand one has to buy it from Korea itself.

Postal service - how does a letter travel from Canada to Namibia - via Europe? Does it go to one country in Africa, and then to Namibia. I have looked everywhere, UPU etc, but cannot find an answer. Is there a directory of physical postal routes?

Open Source Ticket system - I am looking at OTRS, but cannot figure out if the system can send alerts to a supervisor/co-worker if a ticket is not resolved within a certain period of time. Any pointers? Any other open source trouble ticket systems out there that can do this?

I reinstalled Win2K for business use at home. What utilities can I install that will help me manage & oversee system processes that get put on this computer over the next year or so? What's that program that allows me to run a Win2K "microwindow" to containerize suspicious freeware/spyware.. VMS or something like that... is that worth having or does it seriously slow down the system? [more inside]

Our house got broken into today. We're thinking the seemingly inevitable thoughts about getting a home security sytstem. So, a couple questions: 1. Are we just overreacting (aka, is getting a security system a bad idea). 2. For anyone who has an experience - any thoughts on which is best and what to avoid? The previous owners of our house had a system by Edison Security, so in particular any experience there would be helpful.
I guess we're thinking, at this point, (maybe cooler heads will prevail in the morning) about an electronic style system with an alarm that is sent out if it is tripped.
And maybe a dog? Thanks.

I would like to purchase a GPS receiver for my car. I primarily need it for work covering Chicago and suburbs. I would like one that can speak and talk me to my destination. There are just too many models to choose from! I do not want to purchase the cheapest model and regret the decision later. Neither do I need one to cover all of North America and Canada. I am just seeking a good reliable system that has a good reputation for always picking up the signal. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Biopsychology extra credit question and I have no idea...
"Why do you suppose activation of the first synapse of the parasympathetic nervous system produces excitatory post synaptic effects, but activation at some target organs produce inhibitory post synaptic effects (i.e. slowing down organ activity)?"

Need your assistance in comparing 4 vehicle GPS systems before purchasing one of them. Units include Garmin Streetpilot C340, C330, Magellan RoadMap 360, and TomTom Go 700. Pl provide feed back on screen size and ease of viewing while driving, anti-glare sceen, backlight at night for viewing, ease of use. Your pro and cons would be appreciated. If you have a unit not mentioned but believe it is better than those listed above, let me know. Leaving soon on a trip and your responses would be appreciated ASAP. Thank you.

After seeing the recent movie Serenity, and having my intelligence insulted by how poorly thought out the universe is (it's all supposed to be taking place in one solar system, with hundreds of habitable worlds), I was wondering what the theoretical upper limit of possible habitable worlds in a single solar system is. Assume the normal Earth-like worlds, and moons of Jovians. [Slightly More Inside] [more inside]

I want to buy some speakers for an Ipod. Altec Lansing and Bose have both made speaker sets that use the docking port, so that's kind of cool, but are the speakers worth it? The Bose ones in particular are $300, which seems really high. Anyone have any experience with these? Or is it just better to buy some regular powered speakers and plug them into the earphone jack?

Sorting digital images. I went digital a year and a half ago and I still
haven't figured out a way to sort my pictures that really works for me (by which I mean edit, in the sense of going through and picking out the keepers and organizing them by merit, subject, whatever). Before I went digital I used to just get cheap 4x6 prints of everything on every roll and had a very efficient system for sorting through, editing and organizing them, is there anything software-wise which makes this intuitive and easy, or should I just start printing? I find moving images around in folders really counter-intuitive for this purpose. Any suggestions?
