If you give me a checklist of signs of serious stress or depression, I can check off pretty much all of them. Constant anxiety, panic attacks, flares of irritation at trivial things, headaches, feeling the overwhelming urge to break down and cry or just snap and yell at someone, exhaustion, lack of sleep, inability to enjoy my time off and alas heavy loss of libido. How do I cope when I can't escape what's causing me stress? [more inside]

How can we automatically block DOS type attacks in a load balanced environment? We used to have mod_evasive on Apache, but now Apache is behind a a load balancer and so does not see the external IPs. We are manually blacklisting IPs in Shorewall - but would like something on the load balancer to do this automatically on detection. Running Linux, Shorewall, Apache and Pound as load balancer.

I've got a web site that shows up just fine for everyone except me. I get a big fat "page not found" when I navigate to it even though it works fine in proxy browsers, I've used ipconfig/flushdns and cleared my browser cache. I'm sure it's a DNS issue of some sort, but have no idea what else to do. Help?

I am part of an IT department for a biggish small comany. We don't do any retail anything, but we do do government contract work. We want to make sure that we're aware of any data-retention compliance issues that could eventually bite us. I am looking for a law firm we could pay to advise us on this. Can anyone recommend such a firm (or lawyer) from experience? I would rather go on a recommendation than throwing a dart at a Google results page.

Exchange 2000 has a limit of 16 gigs. When you hit that limit, there is a registry entry to increase it to 17 gigs on a temp basis so you can clear out email and do an offline defrag. Well. About a hour after increasing the limit, we hit 17 gigs and now our exchange store is not compressing. [more inside]

I'm a senior Unix system administrator who will shortly be responsible for maintaining an Active Directory 2003 installation as well. I'd like to build up a small ad2k3 reference library. I've had training and am finding my way around fine so far and I'm not a stranger to NT4, so I'm not lost, just trying to be prepared. What books do you recommend for an experienced sysadmin who is new to Active Directory 2003?

As the sysadmin for a really boring law firm, I feel somehow honor bound to wreak some kind of non-CLM technical havoc at work in honor of April Fools (only on those that can handle it, of course). What have you done/had done to you that brought peals of laughter but didn't get anyone fired or indicted?
