Soundtrackfilter: Please recommend to me mostly-instrumental, sometimes dark, contemplative soundtrack albums (or even compilations or regular albums) in the vein of Michael Andrews' work for Donnie Darko or Robin Guthrie and Harold Budd's soundtrack for Mysterious Skin. [more inside]

I'm looking for funky jazz, with plenty of synth, an upbeat pace, and R&B influences, in the style of the mid 1980s to early 90s work of Chick Corea and Jeff Lorber. I've noticed this style tends to be copied in video game and movie soundtracks from that period, so recommendations for those types of music are welcome.

Is there a (hopefully free) Mac app that will let me draw (and listen to) a waveform? I just switched to a Mac 4 months ago, and I remember there being all sorts of little audio tools that did stuff like this, but now I need one that will allow me to simply draw a waveform.
Now, ideally I'd like to paste in graphical or vector shapes (photoshop or illustrator) and use those as the waveforms -this is really what I'm looking for - like a line to waveform ability. Would an oscilloscope-type software be more what I'm looking for, and would that allow me to "dial" between the drawn waveforms? Thanks!

What is some fun, lo-fi, electronic pop music? Emphasis on the pop. I've heard Nullsleep and some of the other 'chip' musicians, and they're too techno-y for my tastes. I'm looking for something more along the lines of the tracks on the Life Aquatic soundtrack.

I'm in a band. Two guitars, bass, drums. We're looking at maybe throwing in touches of synth -- touches of atmosphere, maybe an occaisional lead line. I have a keyboard/controller (an M-Audio Oxygen8), so I'm just looking for advice vis-a-vis a cheap-but-usable synth module. [more inside]

MIDIFilter: I recently had the good fortune to acquire four MIDI instruments: a Roland Juno 106 and three "modules" (synths w/o keyboards). I want to be able to control the three modules with either the Juno 106 or a MIDI controller (keyboard w/o a synth) or maybe even my Mac. (I use Ableton Live and Reason). [more inside]
