What is this song: slow, dreamy synth song with programmed drum beats that played, in the last year or so, over a commercial that I
believe featured a beach and was perhaps on MTV?

I usually gig locally with a Moog Voyager as my primary synth, but the band is going on a small tour and — though I have a nice ATA case — I have some reservations about taking such an expensive piece of kit on an extended road trip. I have a Korg MS-2000 synth kicking around the house that I am thinking about touring with instead – it's lighter, smaller, and a million times more expendable. Trouble is, I'm having a bit of a hard time getting good, fat, Moog-like sounds out of it.

My girlfriend's son is in a band, and he wants to start adding synth/electronic stuff to his music. I personally some stuff, and could write some stuff up, but I'm looking for a really good basic overview of the technology (not necessarily too detailed, but if it got into details later, it would be ok, perhaps).

I'm looking for funky jazz, with plenty of synth, an upbeat pace, and R&B influences, in the style of the mid 1980s to early 90s work of Chick Corea and Jeff Lorber. I've noticed this style tends to be copied in video game and movie soundtracks from that period, so recommendations for those types of music are welcome.

Is there a (hopefully free) Mac app that will let me draw (and listen to) a waveform? I just switched to a Mac 4 months ago, and I remember there being all sorts of little audio tools that did stuff like this, but now I need one that will allow me to simply draw a waveform.
Now, ideally I'd like to paste in graphical or vector shapes (photoshop or illustrator) and use those as the waveforms -this is really what I'm looking for - like a line to waveform ability. Would an oscilloscope-type software be more what I'm looking for, and would that allow me to "dial" between the drawn waveforms? Thanks!
