We just got an Ipod Nano (the latest one) for Christmas and when we first got it out of the box we were able to download music from our computer to the I-Pod. We did it with I-tunes and I remember seeing something that indicated that the I-Pod was being recognized by the I-tunes website. No problems downloading to the I-Pod.
But now I'm trying to add some music and the I-Pod is not being recognized. The new songs are in my library (under I-tunes) and they are already paid for. I have Windows Vista.
The little white USB cord is not having a problem with charging the I-Pod, but nothing on the computer indicates that the I-Pod is recognized.
When I am in the library, I click on DEVICES, and I can see a word that says sync, but sync is not in bold, another words I can't click on it.
Any advice? I already turned my computer off and on again, and also took out the USB and put it back in as well.
I went to the website and read the manual but there is so much there and I don't see how to do any of the instructions if the I-pod is not recognized.

I currently use approximately four+ computers with all major OS'es (Mac, Windows, Linux-Ubuntu) between work and home. Plus an Ipod Classic for portable music listening. Problem is keeping my music library up to date on all machines, or synced together. If I create a playlist, or change ratings, genre, etc. the results also aren't propagated to the other machines. On Windows and Mac I've been using Itunes but I'm not necessarily tied to it, but it does work on 2 of the 3 OS'es.
There are some previous similar questions, but all look several years old.

iDeviceFilter: I'm hoping to move my son's iPod syncing from the admin user on a Macbook to his own user on the same computer, so that his syncing is then done separately in his user's iTunes.
Can you walk me through this to abate my fear of cancelling-by-misunderstood-sync, please?

I lost my iTunes installation in a hard drive crash. I have a backup from many months ago. I have an iPad and iPhone that have never been synced to iTunes because I got them since the hard drive failure. I'd like to re-install iTunes from the backup and sync my iPad and iPhone to the re-installed iTunes without losing any data or re-installing apps. How would I do that? [more inside]

iTunes broke my calendar. I can no longer sync Outlook to my iPod Touch because "sync server failed to sync." I can't find an answer to this on iTunes help although I do see that others have had this problem. Any suggestions? I've always done this over a USB cable. Nothing has changed except the calendar won't sync anymore. My iTunes software is up to date. I think Notes and Contacts are syncing -- though I just realized I haven't really tested that. I don't sync music in this operation, I do that from a different machine with different settings.

How do I quickly sync all the application data on my iPod touch? Currently, I have to open every single app, wait for it to finish downloading content and then move onto the next app. As I find more and more cool apps, this is taking longer. Is there a way (possibly by hooking it up to my computer) to issue one command and have every application of mine download new data off the web for offline reading? [more inside]

I'm currently running my Ipod classic on a windows xp desktop and (due to space problems) using my Ipod as a external hard drive.
I.E, adding music to Itunes, manually adding it to my Ipod and then deleting it from Itunes. However, I'm going to buy a new (vista) laptop and wondered how can I retrieve all the music off my Ipod and sync it with my new laptop.
Also, any idea how I can move all the Photos from my Ipod (which I have saved as full resolution pictures) to my laptop??
Any help or advice greatfully recieved.

I am trying to sync my Macbook's (Leopard) Address Book with my iPod Touch. The problem is that fields on the Mac like "spouse" and "children" do not show up on the Touch. Is there a fix for this? Thanks.

I sync my nano with iTunes. I play a few podcasts on my iPod, plug it in to my computer, but iTunes doesn't notice they've been played, and resets all my podcasts. But only sometimes! Infuriating! [more inside]

I rate my music on my ipod as I listen through it, and I'm trying to get several thousand ratings from the ipod back into itunes. It doesn't seem like itunes can do this for me. (That's stupid!) I found this script
, which also has failed to work for me. Need help using the script, or itunes, or finding another alternative. [more inside]

Sigh. iPod problems and I can't figure them out. They key obstacle is "Sync failed: unknown error (-124)", followed by "iPod cannot be synced: required folder cannot be found".

Audio and video are out of sync on mp4s downloaded from Google Video about 80% of the time. Is there anything simple that I can do about this? OSX, by the way, and it's mostly for watching on my iPod.
