How to stay organized and synced without downloading to work computer?

I work an overnight shift and when I don’t have actual work sitting in front of me I’m able to work on my schoolwork and research for a PhD. I’m looking for the easiest way to manage the electronic articles I find (and download) as well as manage the Word documents I’m typing for notes and papers (and the dissertation. Heard of a Global User Spell Check Dictionary?

Is there any program/script that can control all User Dictionaries on a machine? You know, when you're typing MetaFilter, and FF tells you it's spelled wrong. You can right-click, and "Add to Dictionary". No sweat. But what about all the other programs I have (Evernote, Thunderbird, Lotus Notes, Excel, Word, etc, etc, etc.). I'm looking for the One User Dictionary To Rule Them All. [more inside]
