What is this cross-based symbol
, as if from a coat of arms or a flag or banner? The image I've linked to is an approximate representation roughly drawn without skill from memory. The closest I've found is the flag of (the country) Georgia
, but there are some differences: (1) Georgia's is a lighter red, (2) it's missing the end caps on the main cross, (3) its minor crosses have curves, and (4) it's overall elongated horizontally rather than squared.

My husband has an old, broken jade necklace that I would like to replace. However, he doesn't remember exactly what it stood for, and I have no idea. A brief search has pointed me in the direction of long life symbol. Yet when I search for a long life symbol pendant, a million other things seem to come to the forefront instead of what I'm seeking. Can anyone offer their thoughts?

This envelope with a letter inside was found inside a large decaying bound edition of Shakespeare auf Deutsch in a junk shop in Bushwick that was only apparently open for a few months before disappearing. The letter, postmarked 15 March, 1939 - was sent to Paris by a Mr. Henri Wolf. The contents of the letter appear to be German shorthand. Included was small piece of what looks like code, there's nothing else on the back. The letter, envelope, postcard, etc in question are at this imgur album.

What languages use a U with a ring on it (U+016E), and how is it pronounced? What is an "incomplete infinity" (U+29DC), and why does it need a symbol? Who uses a times sign in two circles (U+2A37), and for what? And why is a small capital psi (U+1D2A) in the Phonetic Extensions block? How do I find the answer to things like this? [more inside]

What is the significance of a symbol that was everywhere in the '90s? It consisted of a vaguely heart-shaped urn-like thing with an open top and flames coming out of the top. If memory serves, there were usually Xs across the widest point of the heart, and sometimes flames in the background. I remember this from the sleeve art for Celebrity Skin
(Courtney Love is wearing a tee shirt with the symbol) and from the old House of Blues logo
. What is this symbol called, and what does it mean?

I'm looking to find or generate a list of movies whose logo/font includes at least one symbol replacing a letter. For instance, Night Shift
replaces the "i"s with footprints, and more famously Ghostbusters
replaces the O with the "no ghosts" icon. Bonus points if the symbol is a dollar sign. [more inside]

A while ago, years, i seem to recall a webpage that would allow you to search for the meaning of particular graphic symbols or logos. There are at least 2 that I'd like to try to find out what they mean. One is on a bumper sticker and it looks like an A with a V superimposed over it, in a circle. This is in Cincinnati area. The other is crudely reproduced from memory here
. The more I look at it, it looks like a religious symbol.
1. What are these Symbols?
2. Is there a site that would allow me to identify other random symbols/iconography on my own?

I'm looking for a large version of the classic Victorian "this way finger"
. A vector file would be ideal, but any large enough raster images would do as well.
Also, what exactly would you call that thing? I know it would be considered a dingbat
but I can't imagine shopowners ordering signs saying "Give me that finger thing, you know, the uhh, finger?"
I was able to find some pointing fingers
but they're too clean. The Victorian style in the first link is what I'm looking for.
