Shibboleth-Filter: I saw a man on the NYC subway wearing a strange button. A green san-serif "L" on a white background with a big red "No" strike-through symbol. Googlefu is failing me. What was he for or against anyway?

Can anyone point me to the origins/history of the © symbol? I've read that the symbol was first called for in U.S. Copyright Law in the 19th Century - but where does the symbol come from? [more inside]

Can you identify this symbol (http://h4xr.org/9rb2)? It's a diamond centered between two vertical lines with a dot in the middle. I've seen it on sidewalks and streets and presume it's used by electricians or other street/maintenance workers. What does it mean?

I'm looking to find or generate a list of movies whose logo/font includes at least one symbol replacing a letter. For instance, Night Shift replaces the "i"s with footprints, and more famously Ghostbusters replaces the O with the "no ghosts" icon. Bonus points if the symbol is a dollar sign. [more inside]

A while ago, years, i seem to recall a webpage that would allow you to search for the meaning of particular graphic symbols or logos. There are at least 2 that I'd like to try to find out what they mean. One is on a bumper sticker and it looks like an A with a V superimposed over it, in a circle. This is in Cincinnati area. The other is crudely reproduced from memory here. The more I look at it, it looks like a religious symbol.
2 questions:
1. What are these Symbols?
2. Is there a site that would allow me to identify other random symbols/iconography on my own?

What is that symbol one finds at the beginnings or endings of chapters of books called? It's like a little arabesque, but with a (reasonably) flat bottom or top.

Is there any meaning associated with stars on the sides of houses? On Virginia's Eastern shore, I saw a bunch of houses with 5-sided stars like this one on their sides. Most were black, but some were more muted colors. Do they mean anything? [more inside]

This symbol appeared very clearly to me near the end of an otherwise uneventful meditation session. This sort of thing has never really happened to me, and it was quite clear, so I'm wondering if it has significance. Maybe I've seen it before; if so, I wonder where. If not, I wonder if it's an archetype. [more inside]

I'm looking for a large version of the classic Victorian "this way finger". A vector file would be ideal, but any large enough raster images would do as well.
Also, what exactly would you call that thing? I know it would be considered a dingbat but I can't imagine shopowners ordering signs saying "Give me that finger thing, you know, the uhh, finger?"
I was able to find some pointing fingers but they're too clean. The Victorian style in the first link is what I'm looking for.

A Korean friend-of-a-friend, and fellow indie pop devotee, gave me a metal bookmark. Of its many symbols, the most prominent is something like (excuse my ignorance) a yin yang, but with three "swirls," colored red, yellow, and blue. (There is also a fish, a butterfly, and what I think is a Chinese "double happiness" and some hangul writing.) Could someone tell me what this means?
